not really sure what to make of it.

at first i thought it was just gonna be another "why didnt i think of that" concept american cop show. but while watching it i quite like the way the whole thing is done. the different characters, and how they relate to each other. its actually interesting how when you see one characters p.o.v, and then see the same scene from another characters p.o.v, what the original characters dialogue seems completely unimportant. shows how some times we miss the important bits in programmes.

i am quite impressed with the series and i think it has the potential to really good. having said that though it wasnt without its cheesy bits, and the storyline was a bit weak.

ill wait a couple more episodes before i make a full judgement.

I agree wit ye there Jim. Thought the different points of view was a good touch, a bit overdone but definitely looks like one to keep watching. Man does Donnie look old or what !

I agree that the different points of view thing is quite interesting but it does seem to be at the expense of the plot. However the character development was promising and I will be watching next week.

Ageed, I enjoyed it. I wonder though, will the shortness of the scenes grate after a while though? I like the characters though, especially the cop from heat and Donnie.

I thought Donnie was Mark Wahlberg's younger brother though? He looks old as hell!

I agree with all thats posted here but especially with patch's comment as i found it to grate already.......they are a bit too short for my liking........but as said already ill give it a few weeks before judgement.

It was good. It was not as good as Law & Order. The differant points of view was interesting. But this may prove annoying in subsequent eposodes. Trawling thru the same story repeatitly may prove a little OTT.

i dont think so. becuase as you go through the different characters you learn more about the story, and you have to see all the different views to see the full picture.....so to speak.

There's 18 episodes in the first series, and all different stories apparently.

It was grand. They've definetely got an interesting concept but I'm afraid that the concept will become the driving force, and not -as it should be - a supplement to a decent plot. Last night's episode had an *okay* plot. I caught one other episode on CNX and it too only had an *okay* plot with the over-used "see it from many angles!" schitick trying to distract you.

I'm not convinced we'll get decent character development either, it all remains to be seen. There are certainly what looks like interesting characters but only time can tell. Certainly none of the loving written plotting of "The Wire", or even the case-a-week nature of "Homicide" or "Law & Order" but I'll give it a few more goes. It was above the flash emptiness of "CSI: Miami" in any case.

well put, i dont like csi miami or the original csi they are definetly empty.

I find the "characters" in csi as wooden as planks. The storys are very clinical and cases are solved without human inter action.

I often begin to watch it & snooze off.

    I have to agree, sorry.

I like CSI but I agree that the characters are wooden in both shows like the other CSI CSI Miami has start off as though the character can grow but if its anything like CSI they won't. However I will tune into watch it, I like the technical stuff.

As for Boomtown I really enjoyed it. Some of the characters look like they've just been put into the show for eye candy i.e. Threasa. Donnie Walberg's character is interesting Maybe he and treasa get together because of his family problems.

Boomtown also does something that other american Drama's tend not to do and that is give the characters lives outside their jobs. I.E. ER is in a hospital and every character is envolved with other characters who also work in the hospital, or Law And Order where their is no time for many sub plots, I think Law And Order SVU sometimes does that. But then Law And Order is a real classic Cop Drama which is always nice to see. I have nothing againist ER its my favourite show on TV at the moment.

Has boomtown been axed in the States and if so Why?

They don't strictly stick to that concept in all the episodes so it doesn't grate too much. I think it is about the best of the recent cop shows, the characters develop gradually without turning into charactures.

If you thought that Homicide was a case-of the-week show then either you didn't get it or you missed the early seasons.

Boomtown has been renewed for a second full season.
For up to date cancellation and renewal information on all US shows this website is very good. http://homepage.mac.com/ijball/TV.html

    B]

Oh I've seen all the episodes! I just meant that "The Wire" had one, and only one, investigation in the whole series whereas "Homcide:LOTS" had, generally, a story a week. I know they re-opened old cases whenever Giardello wanted the board clean or did a few cases that lasted ages (Regina) or even the cross-overs or 2-3 parters (sniper, for example: And what a bloody cool episode that was!) but I was just referring to the arc, which, in Homicide, was generally character based. Except, of course, for the whole Junior Bunk thing....
