Mellor to West Ham

    From Koptalk
Earlier reports linking Neil Mellor with a move to West Ham can now be confirmed as genuine.

The Hammers however are not looking to buy Mellor but take him on a season's loan. Gerard Houllier has agreed in principle to loan the striker out but has told his counterpart Glenn Roeder that he favours a short-team deal instead.

Mellor looks to have little or no chance under Houllier due to the strength he has in depth so a loan deal looks favourable for him as this would give him a platform to boost his chances.

This is a real shame imho - this guy has a better scoring ratio in reserve games that Owen did! Its beginning to look like you have to be french to push your way into Houlliers plans..:(

i've heard good things about mellor, but i saw him against koln and he did not look ready, he missed a sitter and seemed nervous, probably because he thinks he won't get many chances to impress hou

a loan could be good for him

btw le tallec and pongolle seem good enough to me, from what i've heard anyway

It's probably best for him. Owen and Baros is GH's first choice partnership, subbing one or t'other with Heskey. I watched the Ajax and Galatasaray games and it looks like Le Tallec and Sinima-Pongolle are definitely good enough to play this season. GH should play them in the domestic cup games and throw them into the league games when needed. ie when Smicer turns to shíte and Owen gets injured.

yeah those games against galatasray etc should not be taken too seriously...at least mellor will get first team footie...which he DEFFO will not get at liverpool at the moment.

Chances are if he stays at Liverpool this season, hes only going to get a handful of substitute appearances. A season in the first team of a very good first division club like West Ham would do him the world of good imo.

In theory it could be good for him - unfortunately the only player that I can think of that has made a success of a loan deal was Danny Murphy (wasn't he loaned to Crewe or somebody?). It nearly wrecked career - he had trouble motivating himself.

If Mellor goes on loan he will be forgotten about and a new player will be bought. Most likely Cisse or someone else will be bought at Christmas or next Summer - so if Mellor is off at West Ham he will never really get his chance.

The move will do Mellor good. There's no point in Liverpool keeping him in the squad on the off chance that he's going to be needed this season - first team football will help him develop as a player.

It's a good move for him and I reckon he still has a future at Liverpool. With all the praise GH gives him I defo thi nk he will be back. If Cisse comes in I can see Heskey leaving, not Mellor

Mellor has gone to West Ham - season long loan as expected.

Hopefully it is Heskey who is shown the door (unless of course he improves) and not Mellor.

Good move for all concerned. West Ham get a young, hungry striker with the raw talent to impress in the Nationwide, Liverpool see their young player get some much needed first team action and Mellor gets to play football.

I'm really sick of people hammering Heskey. I honestly think that he is a key part in the team. I know at times he goes through some very lean spells but he has the skill to get back to his best and if pre-season form is anything to go by he is ready to have a great season and repay Houllier's faith. Be warned.

And to the post of Houllier only signing only french people, you should really look at Alex Ferguson and see the last time he signed an English, British or Irish player.

And Man U Get Defoe. Ah Yes an excellent move for all concerned.

Why do supporters of other teams her keep bringing man u into their arguments and the complain about the amount of threads concerning man u on the board?

As For heskey I think gh shoul try and sign a few more players like him tough It may be hard to find more of his calibre:D

Vos noms sont Gerrard par hasard pas?

Your name isn,t Gerrard by any chance?;)

Most stupid posts remind me of ManU and ManU supporters, I guess for me that would be the most obvious reason.

"He has the skill to get back to his best"...what skill are you referring to here, he has one of the worst first touches in world football and whatever skill he does posess he's too afraid to use it on the pitch. The only chance EH has of getting back to his "best" is in a team that plays a conventional 4-4-2 formation, with plenty of crosses from both flanks which he would eat up as a front man. This is just not going to happen at Liverpool.
He has had a decent pre-season, looks quite confident, scored some nice goals but the only chance he's going to get playing as a striker this season is if MO or MB gets injured.
It's time to move on Emile.

there's no harm loaning him out for a year. Liverpool don't really need many more strikers with Owen, Heskey (playing very well ATM), Diouf and Baros.

We do need midfielders though IMO. I'm still hoping we make on world class signing in midfield before the start of the season

A Pool fan I may be but Heskey is a donkey. He had a great season in the treble year but has gone downhill since- he has the first touch of a rhino!;)

It was reported on 5live and Sky that there's a clause in the loan agreement for Mellor which states that he has to start every game he is match fit for.

As a West Ham fan, I hope this is incorrect. It is a very stupid thing for West Ham to agree to but then again with the twat we have as a manager it wouldnt surprise me in the least.

Anyone who says the loan deal is no good for Liverpool and Mellor is crazy. He is guaranteed at least 20 starts this season (more if Defoe leaves or Connolly gets the hump again) and will bang in goals hopefully.

West Ham have been loaning out their youth players for years now with great success. Ferdinand, Lampard and Defoe have all had very successful loan spells in lower divisions and come back to west ham much better off for the experience which they wouldnt have got in the premiership.
