Was planning to get a labret piercin done this week, but does anyone know if there is problems with doing intense physical exercise just after getting your peircing?

in my case, itd be Ninjutsu, at which i might be grappling with someone (pretty much rubbin my face off people, or theres a chance i might get accidentally struck in the pierced area)

if i just took out the jewlerey and put a plaster on would it not get infected really easily? and theres a chance id bleed all over the mats?

any advice would be greatly appreciated!

hey man, Labrets (esp when freshly pierced) in my experience close up very quickly, so if you take the jewellery out put a plaster on for an hour or so you run an extremely high risk of not getting the jewellery back in. Bleeding is a bit of a non issue with this piercing though, maybe a drop of blood during the piercing. The main problem with doing ninjutsu with this piercing is that the back of the labret is flat, and a kick or punch to it can hit that metal back off your gums really hard which can be really bad but if you are wearing gum shields there shouldnt be a problem. :)

basically you gotta give it time to heal, before you take it out, or else its your money down the toilet. Also if yuou know it or bang it
its gonna sting. so maybe if yer serious about it, you should try to avoid anything that means close contact to the piercing.
But you know the final choice is up to you.

Hmm. When you get a piercing like this done, generally if you get it done with a post/stud they'll give you quite a long one, to accomodate any swelling in the area. So you could skip the exercise for about a week, and then get the shorter post put in, not much chance of that getting knocked out methinks! Failing that, wear a hockey mask :)

thanks for all advice! (hehe hockey mask)

i will go ahead with it, but no this week!

is sweat running it a problem? i know its your own bodily fluid but still id feel like it would be getting infected.

how long should i have it before its safe to take out for over 2 hours?

Sweat as far as I know shouldnt be an issue, as its your own it should be somewhat sterile to you (i may be wrong about this). I dont think it ever gets safe to take out for 2 hours at a time for some people. I know one guy who can take his out for weeks (he had his done for 11 years) but the first time I got my labret pierced I had it in for a year and a half and it closed up to an extent that I couldnt get the jewellery back in in under an hour after taking it out.
