Hi to all those sensible people who use a MAC.
    I have a pair of MAC G4's OS-X.
The HD on one of them is sounding a little funny, so I need to replace it asap.
Setup is: 60Gb primary divided into 2 partitions. MacHD 30Gb and Data 30GB.
I have a New 60Gb slave drive in the machine divided as above Untitled and Untitled 2. Is there a way of 'cloning' my existing drive, keeping the settings and especially my address book, mail etc ?.
In Windoze I'd do an xcopy32 /c/h/e/r/k etc - is there an equivalent, or is a fresh install/copy required.

I'm on the DAW-MAC mailing list (digital-audio-workstation-mac) and recently there was a discussion around this. I'm hearing good reports about CCC (see below)

Prior to OSX (Im still running OS9.2 on my audio workstation) HDT Hard Disk Toolkit allows a bit for bit image to be made of a drive. That's been very effective for me.

On OSX I hear that there is an application called Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) available from here :

    http://www.bombich.com/software/index.html

The purpose of Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) is to assist you in moving your entire Mac OS X installation or selected folders from one partition to another as easily as possible. CCC can copy all the system files necessary, maintaining Unix permissions and ownership, to create a bootable backup of your drive. Moving your X installation to a larger hard drive? CCC is right for you!

and it's donation-ware, you get to try and and make an appropriate donation if you decide to keep and use it.

    Hope that helps.
