IOL Anytime Usage: Download Limits???

Been on Anytime now for about 10 days. Seems like a fairly decent service (for the moment anyway), even got my email and webspace sorted fairly quickly in the very beginning over the phone (wow, impressive!)... BUT... what is the deal with the Usage Stats page?
I've been checking it regularly out of curiousity, and tonight I checked it and it reads "At the current rate you are likely to exceed your download limit"...??? What the _ _ _ _??!
My understanding was that we had to stay within 180 hrs/month, NOT that we also had to keep track of how much data we "download"? What's this all about? Did they use the wrong wording or what? Do they mean that I'm likely to exceed my alloted hours (ie: 180) before the month is up?
This is a very worrying development if we are going to have to be mindful of data transfer amounts as well!

I read and re-read the entire terms and conditions page on the anytime.iol.ie site (and saved them as a text file and read them some more!), and NOWHERE does it mention download limits.

This really annoys me because an answer could probably be gotten from someone on the phone, but it's a bank holiday, so I'm sure I'll have to stew about this for three miserable days until I can even attempt to get a response for Esat/BT

That is....... unless someone on here knows the answer

    I live in hope.

    Ta!

With regards the download issue I email IOL because the FAQ wasnt set up at the time.
Hi Beth, thanks for your mail. in answer to your questions, The IOL Anytime package should not time out as you SNL account did. Its done on a different number so it wont run the same as No Limits account. There are no download or up load limits on the account. If you go over your 180 hours your account will time out. There is an online web tool on our web site that you can check your time remaining. There are no extra charges for the time you are on line.

    Thanks again

    G***** (IOL Sales)

That response confuses me to be honest. My current NoLimits account (I'm using it right now) doesn't time out. Oh, if I leave it there for a while with no data going in either direction it cuts out from the server end but there's no time out in the manner which the response you got sems to refer to.

There was no FAQ set up for IOL Anytime on the site when the Anytime package was launched so I sent my queries through email.

I had experienced major problems with IOL No Limits and wanted to know if Anytime was going to do the same. I gave up using No Limits before the time allocation came in, because of the problems so I dont know whats good about it or whats not.

I posted the reply I received about uploading and downloading issues, just like j. corb posted.

Anything else I can help you with, sorry.

I may be misreading the bit of your post I've quoted above - but in case I'm not, I'm not coming down on your or criticising your post or anything. If I've actually misread the above, then disregard.

More an "I'm confused by Esat" directed to the world rather than a "whatchu talking about, Willis" directed to Beth:)

    @ j.cobb:
There's no data download limit on Anytime - it wouldn't make any sense to be honest (but then you know that - that's why you posted). It wasn't in the terms and conditions so if it suddenly happened they'd have to tell you, formally, that they were changing the terms and conditions. They haven't done so, so browse away to your heart's content. I suspect that the message you saw was for one of three reasons: 1. Some wacky bug, 2. It's estimating based on time rather than data and you've just been using it a fair bit and it reckons you can't count, 3. There was a plan at some stage to base it on data transfer (which doesn't make sense so probably not)

Disregard it as long as your current total time is correct - if data transfer did come into play they'd have to let you know in advance.

    sceptre,

Thanks very much for your input and to Beth for the official email wording that she got from Esat/BT regarding limits.
Between the two of you I feel like I know a bit more now!
    I don't know if that's a good thing or... :D

p.s. I just checked my Usage this morning and it now says:
"At your current rate of usage you are likely
to go over your 180hr limit in 23 days"
That makes more sense. Though I will certainly not allow myself to go over 180 hours ;)

    Are these gits serious???
I checked my usage today and now it says:
    "August Summary for jcorb
At your current rate of usage you are likely
to go over your 180hr limit in 22 days
    Logins 15
Offpeak Traffic 17 hours [1037 minutes]
Peak Traffic 0 hours [46 minutes]
Total Traffic 18 hours [1083 minutes]"

How do they calculate that in 3 days time, I have used 18 hours (that's 6 hours/day average), so therefore I am going to exceed my limit in 22 days????? What kind of new math is that??!!
Surely at 6 hours/day for 30 days that would hit 180 bang on, but since August has 31 days, I should be "worried" about not having enough hours left for the 31st. Using their calculations, I will be running out by the 25th or the 26th???? What the?!!
That means that I would have to be logged on for about 7.2 hours per day to run out by that time, and if they're using my current data, that just doesn't add up!!
I'm currently averaging about 6 hours/day for cripes sake!
Since when does 6 become 7.2??

This really is some strange new form of "future" math.

    Quizical,
    J Corb

I think its just a simple case of "Don't go over 180 hours"

You dont have to worry about estimations or whatnot, just don't go over the limit.
