Facial cleansers

Does anyone know anything about the active ingredients in face washes?

I don't really know much about dermatology or cosmetics products and stuff (I figure I'm a lost cause) .... up until recently I thought light reflective particles had something to do with optics....
Anyway because of my working hours and skin type I need to use a face wash.

so, I've chopped and changed and never really noticed any active effect (tho my skin is pretty clear) and then I tried (on advice from a girl I know) Neutrogena.

Sweet jeebus its like bleach. It doesn't hurt or anything, but you know when you "feel" cleansed.......

I looked at the bottles and tried to see if there was anything especially different about it but couldn't find anything.

    Anyone know the science bit?

some facial cleaners (the anti-spot) ones have a bleach in them.

Others might add marketing aids - essential oils / menthol / eucalyptus that feel tangy..

Washing power/shampoo - has grey colouring so it looks like it's taking out the dirt. and the blue whitener ....

Most detergents have foaming agents added to look sudsy - just means you have to rinse you plates or you ingest more of the stuff

detergents used in washing machines / dishwashers has to have anti-foam.. (usually higher alcohols)

And don't get me started on unnecessary colourants ...

    What are the ingredients

    SDS/SLS is a detergent
