hi guys just got an answer from tech support at iol they finally admit that there is CONTENTION ISSUES WITH EIRCOM(48-1)and that they see no real solution to the problem so at peak times iolbb will be slower than dial up..............:o

48:1 is the connetion used with most entry level dsl packages all around the world. It has been proven to work properly, without ppl getting sub 56k speeds.

What you need to do is get someone you know on netsource or eircom to connect to their service from your line at one of these slow times. If you don't get the same crappy speeds then it can't be contention that's causing the problem. You can then demand that IOL give you a real reason.
