I know I put this in another thread but I want someone in RTE/ TV3 to see this...

    Bohs v Rosenborg
On this issue I think its an absolute disgrace that this is currently not being shown on either RTE of TV3. This is our national champions versus the Norwegian champs for the right to play Deportivo La Coruna in the final qualifier. Excluding internationals there will be no bigger soccer game in Ireland this year and the whole country should be given the chance to get behind our countries representatives.
Come on RTE/ TV3 get your act together there is still time to save face, we must be the only country in Europe who can't watch their national team play in the Champions League????

    Hey,

Instead of hoping RTÉ or TV3 see this thread, why not actually email them, and let them know how you feel about this. You can email a complaint to RTÉ at: complaints.review@rte.ie and TV3 at: info@tv3.ie . Let us know how you get on!

    Bohs? National team? Chortle! :D

Seriously, its not a given that either broadcaster will see this, best to e-mail them.

And moved to Broadcasting, as its not only a satellite issue.

As far as I remember this happened with Shels last year or the year before.
It's just typical of RTE or TV3 to be blind to what would get them good ratings.

But seriously, would it get good ratings??? Games involving League of Ireland teams barely captures the imagination outside of those who attend matches.

There is also one other caveat. Maybe Bohs wont let RTÉ and TV3 show the game, enforcing the blackout so as they can maximise the gate? Quite possible, that.

Well maybe not grat ratings but I'd image it would get more ratings than most of the other crap they'd have on instead of it & it would be on in nearly every pub in Ireland.

I doubt that, you'd think Boh's would want the extra bit of cash from the TV rights & i'd imagine they'd like to be seen more in Ireland which would promote the Irish league which would also mean more cash for them. It wouldn't effect the gate sales too much.

I e-mailed RTE about this last week (Friday). The address I used was complaints@rte.ie. I didn't get a reply (RTE are usually good at responding to e-mails, I have found).

I heard somehting that Eurosport might show it. I wonder if that is still a possibility.

I assume the Norwegians are coming to Dublin to produce the match - afaik it is going live to Norway, and if not 'native' channel are showing it, then I am guessing the Norwegians cover it (or would it be the club?).

I don't think there will be an issue with the gate - certainly if they win this one bohs would get support from everywhere, and could feasibly fill lansdowne road.

Ironically, I would guess the rights for this game would be among the cheapest for any game. I betcha if they win there will be a rush to televise the Deportiva game, and a big deal made about the one who wins them.

Imagine bohs make it to the CL group stages - there'll be a showdown between RTE and TV3 (who share the rights this year) to show bohs games.

They might get better ratings than what is on, but then there is value for money: Expected ratings vs Cost. There would make more money on the gate than on the TV rights. Cheap compared to other European Leagues...

They would be no showdown at all. TV3 have the CL on Tuesdays, RTÉ have it on Wednesday.

Game should be live - it is a disgrace but then no surprise.

Game will sellout so no issues - Bohs would love to have it televised.

RTE are too busy showing american sitcoms and wall to wall gaa. they have no interest in domestic football.

As I said above, TV3 have the most interest in domestic soccer, they have the rights. Don't blame RTÉ for all this. GAA is by far the biggest spectator sport in the country, so thats why there is so much of it on. As for American sitcoms, at least RTÉ has the better ones!

I also feel that for TV coverage, the move to summer soccer for the League was a bad decision.

Got the same one, word for word dmeehan.

One thing you can say for RTE, they are good at replying to e-mails - this is the 3rd or 4th time I have e-mailed them on various issues, and they have always responded.
