    hello hows it going?

basically all i would like to know is how a singer goes about meeting up with musicians with a view to starting a band. im a 23 yr old female singer and im finding it real hard to meet up with people interested in starting a band.
it may just be a guitarist i need or a whole gang of musicians.
what i really want to do is perform and sing with a group of people interested in being creative and experimental and above all enjoying the experience.

ive been stalling thinking ill bump into the perfect gang of people and that kind of opportunity would arise but it never has unfortunately. ive also tried replying to ads but that didnt really work out, the people i did meet.

ive got a totally mad mix of musical influences from damian rice, jeff buckley!(bit of a hero), coldplay, neil young, opera, rachmaninov, radiohead, edith piaf, and holy stuff (i sing for weddings and funerals (fun!) )..and yes i admit abba on drunken nights when youd sing anything!

i wonder has anyone any advice for me on where and what are the best ways of going about this.

it would be great if anyone could help.

    tanks :)

Post up with your influences and what style you are interested in. go to www.gigsmartireland.com and post on the forum there too. Buy and sell is always a great option, i met my bassist and guitarist through it

    Hey Larablue,

Well.... I have to say I feel as if I'm in the same boat here....

I'm mainly a drummer by trade, but I also play Bass and Guitar (but can't sing for ****e!);)

I've been looking round Dublin for about 2mths now for a band to join or members for a band I've tried to get together myself and even though I've gotten lots of responses, good feedback and lots of people saying "you're good, why aren't you in a band?" I still ain't getting anywhere cause no-one seems committed enough.....

I don't mean to generalise but in all seriousness, what the hell is going on, I've been in a hell of a lot of bands over the years (I'm 24 now...) and I've never run into this problem no matter what I happened to be playing at the time, instrument or style.....

If there is anyone out there who really is serious about getting something together, just get in touch......

It's funny what you find. You would think singers are ten-a-penny, and they are, but there are so many, frankly, ****e singers out there. I placed an ad recently, and the response I got was astounding. I thought, if I was lucky I'd get one reply, but there were loads of people ringing me for two weeks after I made the post (on musicmaker.ie).

If you think about the amount of live bands you've listened to, ruined by poor vocals, thinking "I could do much better than him", it starts to make sense that bands are actually crying out for vocalists. :)
