Just checked my e-mails for the first time today - 18 items, every last one of them SPAM!

The net is being crushed under the weight of data used by these usless messages and with BB speading it can only get worse I reckon.

How bad is your spam ratio? I reckon its reached 9-1 for me most days.

And which source is the worst cuprit?

I'd say its Cool Bargins for me, every day there's a couple from them.

    Mike.

I get very little spam to my real email account. I have a few accounts I use for filling in forms on the web, and two that I only give to people I know. I got a bit of spam to my real account there a while ago but didn't reply or click on any links and it just stopped coming. I know I'll probably be gotten eventually and then the flood gates will open. I'll just have to get a new address then I guess.

I usually receive 25 spam mails a day to my o2 account.

Most appear to be directory attacks a@o2.ie, aa@o2.ie, b@o2.ie etc, etc

However I have noticed that a number of message are sent directly to specific o2 accounts.

Does anyone know o2's policy on selling email addresses to 3rd parties?

I get very little spam 5-10 messages a week on my spam account, sometime none for a whole week. I tend to be religious in blocking them all though. I only ever got one on my real account and that was simply a repeat of something I had signed up for.

Let me guess, it would be illegal.

I get about a hundred unwanted messages a day. Admittedly, a lot of them could be prevented by finding that "don't notify me about a reply" option on Boards...:)

The worst culprit right now is mortgage stuff, although that big boss virus thing is fairly common, along with porn and viagra ads.

Jaysus, I get about 40 Spam mails a day to a pretty odd account, ie not yahoo, iol or anything like that its just a domain account yifm.com

I've just learned to put up with deleting all the crap without even thinking, it is a little annoying.

I've been getting regular (one or two a day) mails from Totemmail. At least it's to my designated "sign up for things like boards (any board)" account.

My college mail account on the other hand is deluged to such an extent that I just don't open it. It's been around since 1995 you see - back in the days when spam wasn't much of a problem and everyone threw around their mail address like crazy*. Often really friggin dodgy stuff as well - waste of time even opening it, though I have to open it every once in a while in case some lecturer forgot about the "Never send mail to my @student.ul.ie account as it gets a silly amount of spam" message I sent them.

*back in the days when it was seen as cool to have loads of email accounts too but that's another thing & just sad.

I got my dear old mother hooked up on the net so we could keep in touch and now any time she opens up her email account when I tell her I've sent her pictures or information she has to wade through at least 5 penis enhancement offers :(

i have 2 accounts. 1 for friends and another for internet things.

the personal one is clean enough. i think i've only seen 2 or 3 spam e-mails in the last month :)

my other account is bombarded with credit card offers, reduce your mortgage deals, penis enlargement, 50% off Viagra and so on :(

    3 accounts.

account one is my public general one, it recieves about 40/50 spam per day.

account two is my private general one, it recieves none.

account three is my personal one, until recently it was recieving none but its now getting 4/5 day.

I know for a fact that some of the spam i get is because of the address being harvested from mailing list archive sites, which is most annoying. About 75% of the spam i get is pr0n, the rest is usually for cheap domain names etc.

My main (work) account gets little, if any spam

My home account gets pretty much none

My "crap" account (used for signing up to webpages, etc) gets a 50/50 mix of spam to valid mail at the moment :/

I'm up to about 40 a day now. And I'm using Mailwasher to bounce them back. I'm seriously thinking closing my current addy. I'm really careful now, but I've had my address for nearly three years. Once you're on one mailing list, it's only a matter of time before you're on a couple, then it just multiplies exponentially. It's only a matter of time before the powers that be will have to do something about it.

    I have 6 accounts:

one college and one work account

2 yahoo accounts and 2 hotmail accounts

my hotmail accounts are the only accounts that i recieve spam to and at that i only get about 4-6 spam mails a week.

I sign up for all sorts of shiit on the internet but i always try to check the little check box that says "don't notify me about third party offers".

otherwise im pretty lucky spam wise and use filters as much as i can when new spam pops-up.

had to get new email addresses about 10 times due to it getting to a point where i got about 50-75 spam mails a day, on one at the moment where i rarely get any though which is good. Was fed up looking at how my penis could be enlarged or the such....

I use a hotmail account for signing up to things I don't care about (gets loads of spam), another hotmail account for things I sort of care about (gets some spam), and my personal ISP account, the address I give only to friends, which used to get no spam.
I started getting junk to my ISP account a couple of months ago, so I signed up to Spamcop - http://spamcop.net/ - and report the spam religiously. Since then I get pretty much no spam - maybe 1 piece a month.

I love receiving those variants on the Nigerian 419 scam email because they always include a foreign phone number (so you can ring them and they can pretend it's all legit) and they mention at least one email addy to use to reply to them.

A quick look at international dialing codes etc to work out which are the mobile numbers and then I sign them up to lots of free text alerts, timed to go off constantly between 4 and 6am their time (timezones of course worked out from their country code:))

    It's delightfully evil :D

That and I also forward their mails (plus full headers) to their ISPs.

One poor bastard in Spain made the mistake of spamming me with two of those mails in less than 30 mins. I DOS'd his phone with free text alerts

Thanks to Mozilla's excellent built-in junk mail controls, I have no idea how much spam I get and it never bothers me, very few spams (no more than 1 or 2 a week) get through the blocker and as far as I know it hasn't picked off any legit e-mail.
