Yea we all know about Ripwave. IBB are trialling it at the moment with a view to releasing it in about 6 weeks afaik. I've seen it in action and it looks pretty good. Where I saw it working there was a weak signal so it regularly disconnected and we had to wait for the signal to come back which took about 5mins. It would only work in one place in the house, on the front window ledge. A slight movement and the signal would be lost.

Pings were terrible, download speeds were good, 40-50k/s.

I'm pretty sure most of the problems were due to the weak signal though. If we had of been closer to the transmitter (it was logging onto RTE tower rather than the closer 3 Rock transmitter) I think it would have been excellent.

Oh and check the Nets/Comms, Broadband and Ireland Offline forums, there's been a lot of talk about this already.

Well the contract that I saw was a 6 week trial and then the option to continue paying for it... so it's just a guess that it will be released then.

I feel if the testing of Ripwave does succeed I feel there will be a price war. I know one has to be within 5km of a base station to get this wireless broadband option. Base stations are starting to crop up all over the place.

Best thing also is that it is mobile and I hope this will come in because I do a lot of travelling around the Dublin area.

PIE about site testing, can you just call the people out and get them to check that you will be able to receive this service or can you only do this when you order the product? I live within 1km of the base station in RTE so I feel that there is a chance I can qualify....When I move to another rented house in Blackrock later in October I will also qualify. I really want to know more about this product and any help you can give me, I would appreciate it. I have all the press clippings and have phoned the company. I heard Start of August as a release date?

The sooner this service comes in the better. I use broadband in work but I don't have an I-net connection at home. My parents use ISDN and I will never ever go back to 56k.

    Thanks.

Ring them up and ask them for a trial, tell them how close you are to the transmitter and that you shouldn't have any problems getting a signal. As far as I know, IBB actually rang the guy I know asking if he wanted a trial!
