Found this site, might be of some interest as this guy seems to know what he's talking about and you might get some useful hints off it..

    Best of luck,

A lot of people who did my course go on to work on oil rigs (Radio Officer). Just a word of caution. There is a reason you get paid a large wod of cash. It's very dangerous work.

    cool site.

    oil careers

    oil rig jobs

most hobs are for graduates, and i have no idea what sort of numpty unskilled type work they do.

you can also look up Schlumberger, as they are about the largest Oil and Gas services company in the world, and have their finger in every facet of the energy industry from rigs to wells to seismic data to transport to end products to service stations.
in fact, look at the back of your credit card and its probably a schlum card.
we compete against them, but only in a small fraction of the industry.

    Thanks Lads

Tis for my cousin this, he is an engineer by qualification/experience. He is looking for skilled work on the rigs if he can get it, if not slog work does not bother him. Preferably in the Europe/African regions. Went to a lot of sites but not a lot of information just claims that if u pay us 100 pounds then we will get u a job, no idea of money, conditions etc.

    Thanks lads

wonder if its easy to get an unskilled job on an Oil rig [suppose they wont want programmers on board :D ] just like to do it for the experience and also the money :D

I've got a friend who was a diver on oil rigs and worked all over the world - from Scotland to the Middle East and Malaysia. He earned a lot of money, but it was very hard work. If you are interested, I could try to find out a bit more about working on rigs from him and let you know.

really want to get into an oil rig for the money & experience
Just got an email off this site
    my question was
"Hi, I am just wondering if there any age limit on getting a job in an
    >oil rig?
    >
    >Do they generally go for older generation people ie. 30-40 ? or the
    >more
    >around 20 s?"

    His responce was

    Hello Len

Thanks for your email. I don't think there would be an age restriction like
that... provided you are able to do the work, I don't think it would be an
    issue

However, you might like to put this question directly to the people at
http://www.oilcareer.com/?a=000025 Once they get back to you, provided it
is all still looking good, I'd recommend you take up their service.

They will distribute your resume to a large number of oil rig companies
which should help your prospects of getting a job. Also take a good read
through their site - they have a lot of informative FAQs and other
    information on there.

I hope this helps - if you have any further questions please don't hesitate
    to contact me.

    Best regards

    Hello Len

this service, you'll need to either opt for their advanced or professional

you really want to restrict your search to aberdeen
this is where a lot of the british north sea oil is based out of.
i can give lists of companies and phone numbers, but then again, these aresily found on the net.

hold on, i did find one cool resource for all sorts of stuff. i will have a scoot and see if i can find it.
it may help, it may not, but its up to you to search through it. i know nothing about the actual production of oil.
although, companies like petro-canada, perenco, apache and encana have just started production in the north sea, and might be good places to look.

i'll post that link when i find it

the big list of oil links.....

this is about as much info as you are ever going to need.

whether oyu can actually get the useful and relevant details, is up to you.

this covers a lot fo the global stuff, so you may have to search and trawl for UK and IRish stuff.

i do know that BP operate of the coast of ireland, and that there is some gas wells of the south of ireland in kinsale.

    but read up and research.

and let me know how you get on :)

Hiya, sorry this took a while - I had to try and get hold of this guy. Anyway, this is what he e-mailed me with:
Working on the rigs without any training in one field or another would be difficult but not impossible. The only way I ended up there was by being a diver but there are all sorts of jobs available offshore from engineers to galley stewards. If this guy really wants to get on the rigs or offshore vessel of some sort and has no trade then he could try going up to Aberdeen and applying to one of the catering services that operate on the rigs. The one that I know is called Kelvin. I almost went to work fo rthem once in my desparation for work. They supply chefs, galley staff, cabin stewards etc. The pay is pretty good but getting a job might be hard. To work off shore in most places you need to have offshore survival training which will cost about 1000 pounds and take 5 days. The best place to do it is probablly at Nutec in Middlesborough. Don't bother looking for work without that training. You can probablly find Nutec on the internet and they will be able to help with any o! ther things that might be needed. It is very strict and they change the rules all the time. Offshore work in warm places like the far east would not be possible because they use locals for all those kinds of jobs.

Hope that might be of some help as well - although I know you've been given some good links.

Don't know about that warm places thing.
My dad worked on an Oil rig for 2 years while saving up for our house (bless him :/ ). It was off the coast of Saudi, can't remember his exact job because he was freelance and was always chaning. I'd ask him about it but he is away.
