are TV3 ever going to be made available on all transmitters? is there a time frame for this to happen? reception is a joke around here at the moment and some houses in the area can't even get a watchable picture

If TV3 are willing to pay RTE for the service then they will be made available on all transposers. When they started up first they were only willing to pay for transmission from the main stations, like Mt Leinster. Maghera etc...

Spur Hill, ad Woodcock Hill arent mai transmitters though

They're not main transmitters, but they are large sites with considerable coverage. What TV3 would'nt pay for was coverage from sites like Suir Valley, Dungarvan, Clonmel and other smaller sites like these.

it is disgraceful that they can pick and choose. they should be forced onto all transmitters. it's not as if there is no room

How much did RTE want them to pay? I seem to recall an argument betewwn RTE and the government over the value of the network, If RTE were demanding usage fees in line with their inflated valuation it is no wonder TV3 didn't buy full coverage.

In Mayo a few deflectors carry TV3 'cos people have no other way of getting the channel.

The TV3 situation is similar to five in UK which also isnt' transmitted on all Tx's. Not even transmitted from Brougher!

Its getting more similar as Five was on Analog Satellite then Digital FTV and now looks set to be entirely owned by Sky (it is part owned) and Pay TV only.

IMO TV3 has worse terrestrial coverage but better content than Five.

TV3 ought to be FTV by law on Satellite (along with RTE, NET" and TG4). Whatever about cost it is cheaper than upgrading the terrestrial network. They don't even have to go with Sky's overpriced videoguard. With BBC now FTA, viacess from EXISTING transponder wuold be a viable option. In some areas it would be cheaper to GIVE everyone a viaccess embedded cam digital receiver and Dish than install 4 channels of relay.

The thing for TV3 is that who pays for the electricity cost for these transmitters, and who pays for installing them? It should be rememberd that when they awarded a broadcasting licence over a decade ago they didn't even have a UHF frequency to start with!

As stated above TV3 is on all the main transmitters, plus two relays - Woodcock Hill for Limerick city (not a market to be missed out on) and Collins Barracks in Cork city - possibly down to a lot of people there having aerials for the transmitter which although low powered was one of the first UHF relays for RTÉ (my 1981 map even shows it!) and have never changed to Spur Hill?

It's all down to economics I guess, though I believe they should have some plans to place themselves on medium power relay transmitters that serves various towns e.g. Castlebar, Monaghan, Letterkenny.

I've said it before, but I believe that TV3 should be a must carry on the analogue transmission network. I normally cheerlead for RTE, but in this case I believe that it is plain wrong for them to charge TV3 for coverage.

They can still be made "must carry", but a carrier can't be made to carry them free.
