Players and Tactics

What players\team and tactics do you use ?

    I use a 3-5-2 formation (3 attacking midfielders - 2 wide, 1 central and 2 defensive midfielders)

Started with Liverpool and now have the following squad:

I have backup in all postions, so here's my full first team squad:

    GK: Kirkland\Robinson

    DC: Rivas\Chivu, Hyypia\Mexes, Henchoz\Boumsong

    DMC: Davids\Riise, Gerard\Xavi

    AML: Kewell\Van der Vart\Joe Cole

    AMC: Riquelme\Joe Cole\Van der Vart

    AMR: Joaquin\Mancini

    SC: Kluivert\Owen\Saviola\Farnerud

Looks expensive, but I was able to sell off a lot of players for good money e.g. Dudek, Hamann, Babel, Traore, Mellor, Welsh, Ostembor, Partridge, Baros (Had to sell as his work permit wouldnt be renewed :( ) and a few others that I bought cheaply and sold for big profits - Kallstrom, good player, but found him too slow. Worth holding on to some of the younger reserve team for a couple of years, loan some of them out if possible.

I must admit that I was manager of Barcelona for a while also, and sold a lot of their players cheap to myself (Kluivert, Saviola, Riquelme and Xavi) :)

Another good source of players is when other clubs go into receivership, make any realistic bid and they have to accept.

Other tips: Keep african\south american players to a minimum, or have good backup for them as they get called away on international duty at awkward times.

Worthwhile players: Look out for Portillo and Aganzo (in the real madrid reserves) you should be able to get them for a few million each max, they will both turn out to be world class strikers. Other than these, all the usual ones mentioned (Farnerud, Kallstrom, etc)

Javier Portillo has a massive buy-out clause in his contract so I doubt you'd get him for 'a few million max' unless ye waited til his contract expires of course.

having 1 formation for every kind of game is not a good idea in CM4..

You need to be adaptable (like alex ferguson changing things about in Europe, and in big games for example)

Do you mean changing the actual 442 to a 4132 or something like that?
I've been using 442 for all games, home and away, counter attacking against good teams away, short attacking game at home,

I find 4-4-2 is usually the best way to go about business. I kind of screw around with it depending on the opposition - get rid of, or put in arrows, change metalities, go down flanks, drag a DMC back and whatnot.

What I really cannot find is a reliable way of getting good results away from home. At home in my current game as barcelona I have a 100% record recently I beat Athletic Bilbao 8-0 at home, happy with that I went to Mallorca with the same team (still healthy and all) and dropped the lads down a peg Attacking-Normal, Gungho- attacking etc and got whipped off the park I snuck away with a 1-1 draw having had only a couple of shots on target.

So far this season I've scored two away from home in 6 or so games and 24 at home form 7 I think.

    I just don't get it.

My midfield isn't the most combatative Cole -Xavi - Deco- Enrique but the disparity is incredible.
