    If I got the points for engineering but no c3 in maths could I repeat maths next year?

    Yep, you can repeat as many or as little as you want

    AFAIK, you have to do 6 subjects when you're repeating and I don't think points carry from the previous Leaving Cert.

    Thats wrong.
    If you got the points this year for enginering, but didnt get the min req. for maths, you can repeat next year, just doing maths, and if you get it, then re apply next year, however your course points might go up, and then you might not get in
