    Surely an indicator of how desperate they both are - BBC FTA and all that might (will) follow from it!

    Hmm, lack of transmitters and the probable need for direct LOS will be major hurdles. Mind you as it stands, MMDS is a load of rubbish considering a lot of it is analogue. :(

    Oh now, we can't have this. We can't be having this at all.

    Let me see now...

    Digital MMDS...
    * Its Terrestrial
    * Its almost nationwide
    * It comes in a Digital flavour with 60+ Channels
    * It reasonably immune to interference if installed properly
    * If they switch off Analog MMDS (easy to do) it can have 120+ Channels.

    Negatives:
    * Run by Chorus or NTL depending on Area
    * Near LOS needed (Not as much as 5GHz or 10GHz though)

    Compared with UK DTT
    * More immune to Interference
    * Twice as many channels
    * Costs way more and you can't buy the box (30 Euro per month instead of Free).
    * Four times as many channels as UK if they turn off the pathetic Analog MMDS. (Take a month to swap the existing boxes).
    * Only a bit worse range!

    Compared With proposed Irish DTT
    * Four times as many channels
    * No-one will pay for the new Irish DTT (to install it)
    * No-one will pay for a new Irish DTT (to watch it)

    Yes we already have a half backed DTT, with more channels that UK flavour

    All they need to do is:
    1) Allow you to buy a Sagem box or you own it if you sign up for a year.
    2) Have a decent selection of about 6 free channels inc TV3 and TG4 (as some folks can't get these), RTE1 and NET2 (as these are poor for some and Digital allows Animorphic WS), BBC1 and BBC2.

    3) Charge for C4, UTV, BBC3, BBC4, CBeebies, CBBC as a basic extra at 1/2 Sky's Family pack price

    4) Charge for the rest except sport/movies as Family pack.

    RTE, TG4 and TV3 need to do WS on Digital Satellite, Digital Cable and Digital MMDS. Its a crime they don't already. TG4 even makes everything in WS!

    IF Chorus and NTL get the go ahead for this (i hope not!!!) will we be able to buy a box for the FTA channels. surely RTÉ, TV3 and TG4 would be FTA. as i have said before it would be a sad day if the cowboys got the go ahead. if not they can ***** off as far as i am concerned. my experience of MMDS is very poor and i do not want to be screwed back into Chorus's control for my already payed for RTÉ channels

    *sorry for the bad language. it is justified on this topic i think

    Has there been an official request or proposal about this made to Comreg? Is a copy available on line? Are Chorus and NTL proposing to operate this together, or independently?

    I got this via www.iftn.ie and I may have read it in one of the newspapers.

    Don't know about any documentation.

    I think NTL and Chourus want rid of MMDS, there only option give it to the government.

    RTE's TX dept could no doubt run it better. They should turn off the Analog MMDS at once giving then 120 Ch for Digital.
