I've been playin bass for quite some time now, but all i ever seem to play is chili peppers. I love the funky stylings of flea, but i dont want to pigeon hole myself.

Has anyone got any recomendations out there for some cool bass licks? I'd really appretiate it if someone could name some jazz records that have some nice bass.

Jaco Pastorius, the best bassist in the world (RIP)

i've only seen one person play his stuff, i was at the Montreux Jazz festival in Switzerland a couple of weeks ago and there was a busking band. in between their songs the guy was playing Donna Lee on an upright! i was fckin amazed tbh

All the mentioned bass players are cool and there's a lot more.... for my experience though you shouldn't try and learn this impossible stuff. This has been written by naturals who played for thirty years +

Try something simple and you'll realise it's not THAT simple... and you'll learn much more. See AC/DC or Bob Marley for instance. If you want to move towards Jazz then you really need to *study*, there's much more than learing to play a few tunes... you can start with some easier stuff... melodic jazz like Nina Simone or Jessica Rabbit :)

    Have fun! A.

Try learning Metallica's Orion - even if you're not into metal usually it can provide an interesting alternative.
