Real time meteorological infra red images?

You know those radar images they show on the weather forecast each night that show actual rainfall where the brightness of the image corresponds to the intensity of the rain.

Well, how 'real time' are they? Is there any where on the net we can get the very latest images for free?

I'm probably dreaming here but if these images were available in real time would it be very easy to see when the next shower is going to come?
