i knew there was going to be some issues with putting E4+1 on our subscription seeing as it has english ads.

Did they go to the bother of setting up an Irish version of the channel over the weekend, short answer NO.

On my UK ftv card this channel is on 206, on my irish sub its not.
Again, we are short changed.

Time to complain again! Channel 4 really are a bunch of money grabbing twats who couldn't care less about Irish Sky subscribers.

Last year, when they blocked Irish viewing of E4 Interactive during BB3, I simply called Sky up and requested that I cancel my subscription of Film-4. The answer as always is to hit them where it hurts.

Last year channel 4 created an Irish version of E4 with different ads for the Irish market. This undoubtedly has lead to some advertising revenue for you from the republic, however as a result the Irish viewer has suffered. Interactive E4 which was previously available for shows like Bansai and Big Brother are no longer available. I understand the technical reasons (different transponders, satellites) for not providing these services but I feel a bit more effort could be put into ensuring that we get the same levels of service that the UK get. It is very frustrating to see adverts for interactive Big Brother 24 hours a day when we cannot access it.

Now I see that E4 +1 which was also advertised on Irish E4 is not yet (if ever) available to us in Ireland.

We wont even begin to talk about the abscence of Channel 4 itself!

I feel another Campaign coming on. Where's Charles? Now that I have finally gotten the Sky+ activated I want all of the channels on the recordable EPG.

Channel 4 are saying that it could take up to six weeks before they get around to answering each email.

I've emailed them as well - and Sky too just for the sake of it.

Sky give us Sky One Mix with UK adverts - so why can't E4 just give us E4+1 as it is now?

Because Sky One Mix is a different Channel to Sky One, not a time-shift.

Irish Advertisers on E4 would be annoyed if some E4 viewers (i.e. those watching on E4 +1) weren't able to see their ads.

True, but the viewers should not be deprived of the service for that reason. The ideal solution is that there is an Irish version of E4 +1. There should also be an irish version of the interactive services.

This would keep both the viewers and the advertisers happy. It would obviously cost Channel 4 to set up this however they are making money from Irish advertisers and from Irish viewers who subscribe to their channels.

I complained about the lack of BB Interactive as well anyways while I was at it.

Yes, funny, early this morning there was NO E4+1.
And it certainly was on my Uk card. Then all of a sudden it appears.

I emailed them straight away, and im sure they got a flood of other emails and calls from some of the people on here.

It isnt wasted energy because i am sure alot of others brought up the issue of BB interactive as did i, so they know we are not happy with them. Whoever suggested a campaign i think its a good idea.

When you look at it, E4 Eire(as they call it) is on Eurobird, but its no longer alone, E4+1 with UK adverts is now on there with it.
Will this help them get their finger out and either create an Interactive transponder for Eurobird?, or will they move E4 Eire to the main C4 transponder, the fact there is movement there mean it can now be done very easily.

Can you imagine the scene this morning though at E4 towers?.

E4 Engineer 1 "Right, well switch on E4+1 now"

E4 Engineer 2 "Ok lets go for it, damn it, i just remembered, we havent created a version with Irish ads"

E4 Engineer 1 "Oh they can do without it"

Later that day

E4 Engineer 2 "Just switch it on, were getting loads of emails"


BTW, just to confirm it does have English ads, ooh the Irish advertisers arent going to be happy, im losing them revenue by watching E4+1.

A campaign would at least get peoples attention and show them how unhappy we are that we have no interactive content on E4 et al, plus it would show how many lives at e4 towers we can make very miserable if we put our minds to it lol.

The campaign to get free to air BBC on Sky in ireland seemed to work pretty damn well, we need someone like charles on board o start this off

Woah !! Got a fright when I saw this thread - I would have been seriously annoyed if we hadn't gotten E4+1.

The issue about BB Interactive is interesting. The reason we can't get it is because the UK and Irish versions of E4 are on different transponders - for a channel to access interactive features it has to be on the same transponder that the features are being transmitted from.

The interesting thing is that E4 Ireland is on the same transponder as the new E4+1 (11565V along with Film Four), so if they want to activate interactive features on E4+1 they'll have to add the interactive streams to the E4 Ireland transponder (either that, or move E4+1 to the old transponder). In which case there would be no reason why E4 Ireland wouldn't become interactive.

Last year E4 stated that BB would be interactive in Ireland this year. We know this hasn't happened, but I'd say that it was due to practical issues rather than any desire to exclude their Irish viewers from the interactive experience.

Still there's never any harm in letting them know that the Irish viewers are getting impatient. Just let them know that you're less likely to watch Big Brother if it's not accompanied by it's interactive features.

I'm still waiting a response from them (they acknowledged my e-mail, and said they'd be in touch :rolleyes: ) regarding my complaint over Film 4 changing to a 3 channel package, and thats over two months.

Glad I cancelled the fecker now, I'll be old and grey before they get back to me.
