IT worked, currrently it seemed like an army of slugs and snails were making thier way through all the seedlings I had planted out.

I tried screening them off. placing salt arround the edge of the seedling beds.

With children and the cat in the garden i didnt want to go to extreme measures, then i remembered something I heard once i have no idea where, that slugs love Beer.

So i got a small container added a inch of beer and wedged it down in the seedling bed. the next morning it was full of the lil buggers and all of them drowned.

Same thing for the next 3 nights and no seedling damage.

Are you sure it wasn't a desparate beer drinker who went hunting slugs just so you would put out more beer? ;)

I used to do that! before my soul destroying bind weed ridden messy garden took away my dignity and left me in a shell:( . We used to leave saucers out and the slugs wouldnt drown but pass out beside the saucers and they would be eaten by the birds.

Do you simply put saucer in the flower beds????

I have major issue with snails !

We just filled saucers with old gone off beer and place them along the paths between the flower beds and grass because of the nightly exodus of slugs from one side of the garden to the other. Snails arent that bad you can pick them up and lob them over the wall, slugs are the worst

You can also put for example a jam jar, in the ground, and fill it...as they go in, but cant get out. We have a small plastic mushroom type of thing, that I leave in between all the plants, can hardly see, only the red (head) of the plastic mushroom can be seen... (got it in woodies i think) does the job, and doesnt look too bad.
