Edward James Olmos, the star of the new "Battlestar Galactica," has some advice for devoted fans of the 1970s sci-fi series: Don't watch the remake.
...The new "Battlestar" -- which will make its debut in December as a four-hour mini-series but is expected to become a series -- is not going to be a faithful re-creation of the original.

They haven't finished filming it yet AFAIK. They've been filming it in Vancouver, presumably on a spacey sound stage.

Making it a series in the first place was part of what sank the series - it was supposed to be a series of TV movies in order to build up a fan base and allow the writers to stretch their imaginations a bit. Changing it to a series meant that the writers were suddenly writing episodes quickly, the CGI (which remember was in its infancy) was rushed and they were spending a million bucks per episode on something that didn't have time to build up any fans.

I'm waiting for this with interest. Even as a child (RTE probably started showing this when it was a few years old so I was about 8 when they showed the old series first), it was the potential of the series that interested me, rather than what they actually made of it.

Sci-Fi's official site for the mini-series is here - updated frequently but I've not looked at it lately.

Came across this link as well last night (while looking for an ep guide for this thread but I've not had the chance to look at it yet.

If I don't hear the phrase "rag tag fugitive fleet" at least once in the series I won't be best pleased:D

I'd like to see it, just out of curiosity. I loved the orignal.

In the original film and during the series they reused lots of effects scenes.

eg: Saturn V launch - was used for firing missiles

but my fave one was when the cylons were kamikazing onto the flight deck - the explosion was also used in an episode of the "fall guy" - in the flames you see steam engines - yes they ripped it from "Von Ryan's Express"

Edward James Olmos is a class actor. He was the moody captain in Miami Vice., had loads of decent parts since....

From there, things get difpferent. Starbuck, the hotshot fighter pilot played by Dirk Benedict in the original, is now a woman played by Katee Sackhoff of "The Education of Max Bickford." Some characters, such as Sheba, the pilot played by Ann Lockhart, are missing. The show appears to be darker, sexier and a lot less escapist than the original.

For cryin' out loud, it's gone politically correct.

I found out more facts about this show. The Cylons or new Cylons are now a Borg rip off. One of the main characters is a Cylon spy called 6 as in 6 of 12, who's mission is to corrupt Baltar via sex.

There are ment to be many different types of Cylon models/units.

Insiders on the show are said to be less than impressed with it as of to date.

on the title music for the A-Team a Silon Passes Dirk Benedict and he's about to say something but lets it go.

I love that bit, but now Billy the Borg Silon is going to ruin it for everybody. It's heresy i tell you, heresy.

Well I still think its worth a look even if they have deviated from the original. Then we can slate or praise it!
