If any of yis can get your hands on it, do. It's soo class.. taking the head off some muppet standing on a hill a klick away with the laser rifle is such fun..

Mind you those scout thingies suck.. and I keep crashing my APC and killing my passengers.. and I can't aim that damn stormhammer yoke for ****, but I digress.

My mate is running very smoothly on an AMD K6 200, which is bloody slow by any standards. I'm using a K6-2 300 and it's very nice.

As to where to get it, it won't be released here until the middle of march, I ordered mine from the store at http://www.starsiege.com.

It really is an impressive game. The engine handles detailed interiors and vast open spaces easily, it's fast, clean, looks well and the networking code kicks ass. It's sort of in the same league as the Forsaken engine - looks very nice, does the job, but is uncomplicated and very fast on modest hardware.

I read a review which said it was comparable in speed to Unreal, which I heard was slow. no?

Also, which server you playin on? I thought i saw a mention of one on barrys.

I saw some barrysworld servers in the master list, but with the way things are
to the UK with Tinet atm, I didn't try them.

Of the whole list, only two servers were rated as 'green' (wish they'd use ping times ffs!) so I chose one of those.

I dunno about the comparisons with Unreal - it ran like a dog on my old K6, but on my mates K6 Tribes is quite smooth, though we didn't try any large 10 v 10 games.

no openGL support for TNT users such as meself...YET ! but i hear its gonna be kickass when it comes out

I love getting the lazer rifle and snipering enemies from the top of my base <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/wink.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=";)"> Its very playable even on the US servers... best networking outside an ID game I've ever seen, if fact dare I say it even better.

I like to do the heavy-with-mortar-and-repair-pack thing, but I can never get other lads to stick around and lay down a targetting laser, or bring along an ammo station or jamming pack. on /ugx/games its compressed in *.c01, *.02, *.03....etc format, does any1 know what extractor to use for this file type?

As for the *.c03 etc files - grab everything and run the installer, the files are custom compressed by a warez group.

(third time posting this, Grrr)

Just wanted to point out those who are aquiring the game through other methods. If the default player name in it is "DaJackel" not only is it not the full version, some servers will automatic Kick/ban/ip report you. Some people are able to tell you didnt buy the game as well, and you may find the more experienced players not helping you out or kicking you.

Oh yea, as for muppetry on the servers. It's because.

1) The person stole the game and they think they are supposed to be playing Quake.

2) Never bothered to read the manual and do the training missions, which explain a lot of how things work.

3) Are complete a$$holes who get enjoyment of ruining the game, or have no concept of how the game is supposed to be played.

Hi Ed, Slosh, Suds and whomever else. We want a Tribes server! Which of you guys runs NT? (There's a Linux port in progress atm) If any of you do, could you set this up, it would be amazing to play this game without trying to connect to the states/europe. Any takers?

hmmmm, I heard a disturbing rumour that Tribes needs a 3d accelerator. Any truth to this?

I bloody well hope not! Otherwise it'll be another 2 months before I can get it!

So what are the recommended specs on the game? (not what computer it's been played on but the minimum hardware reqs. from the box?)

As for 3D acceleration, no there's a software
renderer. The only limitation of the game graphics-wise is that the hardware acceleration is Glide only - ie, only for 3Dfx based cards. They're working on OpenGL acceleration for TNTs etc atm.
