So iv decided to go to amsterdam, i will be there for the august weekend. do i have any chance of getting accomodation at this stage?
iv been googling my fingers off to try and find out information, but online booking is a pain in the ass, different sites give different availability and prices for the same hostels/hotels..

does anyone have any experience with amsterdam, could they gimme some pointers??or could someone recommend any places to stay.
id really appreciate any help asap.

see if you can get an an oige card, the international card. There is a lovely hostel beside the Vondelpark, it gives preference to those who hold this card. There's also a few barges that offer hostel-like accommodation. Flying pigs are great crack, but the most popular one's in amsterdam. There's one near central station and the other is up beside the Vondelpark too.
We got a copy of the rough guide and just went on from there..we had no accommodation previously booked and ended up alright.....

Try Hotel Winston, its not half bad, and cheap as well.

Smells like Dance Valley to me.

Here you go http://www.holland-hotels.com/listing.html - looks a bit shaky but I've always had no problem finding cheap hotel accom with this site at late notice and during busy times.

thanks for that, i should be able to find something cheap ..

i was also wondering is amsterdam that big, from maps it looks like vondlepark is ages away from dam sqaure. .
and is it rude to speak english to everyone straight off the bat or is it expected. .?
    thanks for your help.

Amsterdam is not really that big, it's smaller than Dublin. The Vondelpark is on the edge of the city centre, about 5 minutes walk from the Leidseplein, and probably another 10 mins to Dam Square.
Almost everyone in Holland speaks good English, but it's no harm to learn a few Dutch phrases.
