Advice on loft aerial

    Hi,
At present I have a simple cheap and nasty "rabbits ears" to pick up RTE1 & Net2 VHF signal ( TV3 & TG4 pretty poor via UHF) installed in attic, fed thru' simple booster, along with RF2 out from two digiboxes ( one Irish sub & one UK FTV ) and then split to 8 coax sockets thru' house. Reception is quite acceptable with some loss of text depending on atmospherics. Can anyone recommend a reasonable VHF/UHF indoor aerial that one could install in attic to give crystal clear reception - ideally on all 4 channels. Source and price also ??

Get an outdoor UHF aerial, far better results will be received. Can be got at your local TV/aerial dealer for about 15 - 20 Euro. Thay will know what group you will need.

Mostly there is no such thing as a good in loft aerial unless your picture is good with rabbit on top of TV.

They only nail every 4 or so roof tile so if you slit lining you can push up a tile near chimney and slide it out. Remove its neighbout is easy, Then you can almost step out onto chimney.

Do NOT attempt this unless you are experienced with roofs and heights. A proper roof ladder is recommended.

Do NOT ask anyone to do this for you.

If using a ladder the angle should be correct and the base sound. Ideally tie the top and then use a "roof ladder" to chimney.

Ensure aerial is mounted away from smoking chimney cowls etc.

If in doubt get a professional installer and use CT100 satcable so job lasts.

Compared with annual Cable, MMDS or Sky sub it is a small price for 10 years of perfect free reception.

    Many thanks for advice.
Happy enough to get on roof tho' I know that each slate was doubled nailed as I supervised job myself at time !!
As I'm in a cable area ( Chorus wanted £2,500 to bring cable across road - I'll leave you to guess my response to them ) there aren't any aerials around that give my some idea of correct direction. Is it a TV in one hand, aerial in the other, job ??
Also will UHF only aerial attached to chimney give me good RTE 1 & Net 2 given that VHF signal appears far, far better with aerial in loft?
    TIA,
    Dec4.

I have offical list of all Transmitteres and relays from RTE (doesn't show TV3)

Approx where are you and I can tell which group aerial, number elements, if preamp and direction.

You can PM if you don't want public!
