"What the kids really need is love from their parents. Some parents just do not have time for their kids, and that is why the kids go online," he said.

So the government stepped in , In Thailand as it happens.

Bear in mind that this is a country where you can go to prison for saying anything negative about the king. Strange law to pass though, as if you'll stay up from 10:00pm to 6:00am to spend quality time with your kid.

    Ouch, that's pretty nasty...
What about the people who get in from work at 3am and just want to chill out infront of some CounterStrike and wind down from the day?
And how is this law supposed to be enforceable?
Are they going to block every other port on the ISP side?

It would be far better to encourage game developers to be more responsible, and code in a minimum mandatory rest period... even as a gamer myself, I'd like it if a game occasionaly prodded me with a reminder that I've been playing for 10 hours and that if I don't save and exit now, I'll be crashed out to windows.
One thing I noticed was included with Black and White, although not to the same extreme, was that the Angel and Demon charictors would appear when your mouse is idle, saying pretty random things... one of them was something like - "Hey boss it's getting late, us demons need to get some sleep!".
A step in the right direction IMO.

As much fun as games are, you have to step back and aknowledge that many peope are having serious problems with game addiction... and I'd say most of us spend more time playing them than we should :)

Well it's the government/social services that have to pick up the pieces when some kid is being neglected because a parent is hooked on Everquest... and I guess that's their viewpoint.
Granted, not everyone has that kind of responsibility.
It's just another case of the recklessness of the few inhibiting the freedom of the many.
I personally wouldn't mind such a curfew if I really thought it was helping some people manage their 'problem'... but that's just me, and I'm mostly playing devils advocate here for the sake of an interesting discussion.

And Biz, I'm not just talking about 5 hour+ sessions... you could just as easily play non-stop for a solid week without sleeping and nothing would step in and say "ah here now, this is taking the piss - go to bed"... I'd like to think that if I were so unhealthily addicted to a game that someone would come and slap me upside the head and send me to a shrink.

It's a pisser for your average Joe gamer, and I think their approach is from the wrong angle, because it'll just serve to inconvenience a lot of people, while the truly reliant addicts will find some way around it.

PS. this thread would probably take off a bit better on the 'Games' board ... Mod?

    hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i see your point

BUT even at that as you said anyone with a love of computer,s will find a way around the problum and those of us that just like to have a friendly game with a few people from america or britan will be left out

anyway it will never happen here it would infring on a lot of peoples freedom to do as they feel
