    I'm having an engineer uninstall ISDN and install Eircoms ADSL in a 3 days. I've decided to go with a DSL -504 from Dlink and as the engineer obviously won't help me config my router:) was wondering if someone with the same set up could tell me the router settings required to connect.( VPI,VCI,Encapsulation and
    Auth Type)

    Cheers

    Ok.
    follow the instructions with the d-link and when you get to 4. configure the router :
    VPI = 8
    VCI =35
    Encapsulation : PPPoE LLC
    Username *******
    Password ******
    Confirm password ******
    Authentication : chap
    Connect on demand : enabled
    Idle time = 0

    Now for the Very important Bit!!!

    Before you save all that information go into the configuration menu on the top left of the multiple pvc page
    Click on the option " NAT configuration" and make sure this is set as enabled and that DMZ state is disabled!

    Otherwise you won't be chatting to the outside world.

    Go back to the pvc page, check all the info is still there, and click connect at the bottom.
    It should say status connecting for a minute or so and then "connected"
    At which point a gateway and ip address will appear at the bottom of the page... hopefully .

    Nice one! I'll be sure to follow your directions:) Just a few more things. If I attach more machines I just set TCP/IP and DNS to detect an IP address automatically. And leave Internet explorer on detect settings automatically yes?
    Thanks for the reply

    I did that anyway, but can't say what happens as I've only one pc on the d-link at the moment.

    You will save a fortune now if the cap isn't an issue, Vs what ISDN line rental and call costs are:eek:
    Plus it is a lot faster..,an awful, awfull lot faster-prepare to be impressed :)

    Actually enabling DMZ as well as nat is a good idea securitywise as detailed at ..http://shadow.sentry.org/~trev/adsl/stealth.html
