Whats more surprising is that someone actually has IOL... how long did it take you?

Does the different modems really make a big difference when it comes downt o Broad band.. I mean I know you might choice modem A over modem B for 56k or isdn, but broad band matter that much?

It's the same as ISDN/56k Modem just to a higher scale.
With a dodgy modem and ADSL you'll get higher pings with more pl and slower download speeds....same as with dial up.

right, and how would i judge the quality of my modem verses the quality of the line / dsl.. like how would I tell (what would I need to know) if I need to upgrade to a better modem for my dsl connection?

If there is a noticable slow down then the chances are that it will be another issue (line etc) and not the modem that's causing it.

I've used 3 different devices now to connect to Netsource and have noticed very little difference between each (maybe 2-5ms pings and 0.5 or 1k/sec on downloads).

    Hope this helps.

    carb.

P.S. In gerneral an ethernet router will give a slightly lower ping than a USB device.

iol broadband rule,s their is no jumpy pings or jumpy d.l speed,s lag on gamespy only happens when around 3 or more 56kers join (bugger them!)

im happy and iv had it for a week now

From the first contact with IOL, about 5 weeks. My line has been active since last Friday. The modem was sent on the 2nd of July but not delivered because there was no one here to accept it.

Still don't have the modem but this ADSL Router is far better, does DHCP, NAT, Firewall . . . etc., so does not tie up my PC !!

Have 3 Macs and 3 PCs all running on the link.

Had to update the firmware on the router to get PPPoE access.

    Regards

    Tinky
