tvthree today announced details of its new season programming at a vibrant event held in The Sugar Club, Dublin. A dazzling array of TV stars attended the event including tvthree’s own winning team and cast members from some of tvthree’s most popular shows, Bad Girls, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and The Royal.

Present at the event from Bad Girls were Jack Ellis, Jim Fenner the devious Principal Officer viewers love to hate and sexy Wing Warden Karen Betts, played by ex-Emmerdale star Claire King, who’s prior relationship with Fenner ended with disastrous consequences.

From Coronation Street were Samia Ghadie, feisty hairdresser Maria Sutherland and Ryan Thomas, Jason Grimshaw, one of the Street’s resident pinup boys, along with pal Philip Olivier formerly Timothy O’Leary (Tinhead) from Brookside. Both Samia and Ryan are involved in some hot new upcoming storylines. Emmerdale’s Nicola Wheeler who plays flirtatious Nicola Blackstock, Julia Mallam the strong-willed and determined Dawn Hope married to her father’s best mate and in a current storyline dilemma and Cleveland Campbell, cheeky but well meaning Danny Daggert were also present.

Linda Armstrong, Sister Brigid the Irish nursing nun with a heart of gold and a special knack for putting people in their place, was present from The Royal

Sunday night movie premieres remain a prominent part of the schedule on tvthree. The new season promises viewers a dynamic and extensive selection of premieres including Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh), Charlie’s Angels (Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu), The Mummy Returns (Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz), Hannibal (Anthony Hopkins and Julianne Moore), The Perfect Storm (George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg), Proof of Life (Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan) and Space Cowboys (Clint Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland).

Returning this season are firm favourites first introduced to Irish audiences by tvthree. Emmy Award-winning Sex and the City, the European premiere and last series ever with a total of 20 episodes, promises to climax in a sensational season finale. The first episodes can be seen first on tvthree later on in the summer. Another Emmy Award-winning favourite Will & Grace, prolongs the suspense on whether Will and Grace really will have a child together with special guest star appearances including Madonna, Gene Wilder, Andy Garcia and many more. Bad Girls, Footballers Wives, Buffy, Charmed, Malcolm in the Middle, American Idol, The Shield, Law & Order: SVU, and Judging Amy are amongst the hit series returning to tvthree this season.

Ireland’s most popular soap Coronation Street crowned its hugely successful year with a first ever best soap title at the BAFTA Awards in April 2003. The spellbinding storyline featuring Richard Hillman, played by Brian Capron, beat all records making it the most viewed programme on Irish TV this year with well over 1,000,000 viewers tuning in to witness Maxine Peacock’s grisly murder. Emmerdale, the fastest growing soap on Irish television and a big hit with tvthree’s younger viewers, Heartbeat and its hugely successful spin off The Royal all return in the autumn on tvthree.

For a fresh alternative to Friday night viewing, tvthree is particularly pleased to introduce The Dunphy Show, a new independently produced series of talk shows featuring host Eamon Dunphy and a variety of star guests, live from the Helix in Dublin.

tvthree today also announced further details on its ongoing drama initiative. The Commander, Lynda La Plante’s dark thriller destined for big ratings. Starring Amanda Burton as you’ve never seen her before, dark and brooding and brimming with sexual tension, plays Clare Blake, commander of Scotland Yard's Serious Crime Group, a woman committed to cleaning up wrongdoings within the force with a taste for exquisitely tailored couture. She is pitted against corrupt officers and an intrusive media - and finds herself drawn into a potentially compromising relationship with a reformed killer. This being a La Plante Production, there is also a string of murders to add a sense of urgency to the plot, and the whole thing is expertly woven together. Result: The Commander will provide viewers with three hours of rock-solid TV drama over two nights.

Other key dramas appearing this autumn on tvthree include William and Mary and Prime Suspect, starring Helen Mirren and her startling portrayal of DCI Jane Tennison. Prime Suspect has won at least 14 international awards, including BAFTA’s for Best Drama Serial and Best TV Actress (Helen Mirren).

Autumn on tvthree sees the introduction of many top quality new series, such as At Home With the Braithwaites, Dragnet, Keen Eddie and Crash Burn.

Champions League returns to tvthree this autumn and continues to build on its hugely successful coverage with two full matches every Tuesday. tvthree’s winning and expert team of presenters and pundits, including Packie Bonner, Mark Lawrenson, Kevin Moran, John Toshack and Geroge Best will provide viewers with the best coverage and match analysis next season.

News and information programming form a large part of the tvthree schedule with the return of The Week in Review and Agenda, tvthree's weekly current affairs series, in October. Presented by David McWilliams the series brings a fresh outlook to Irish and international political, cultural and economic stories through interviews with leading public figures. Popcorn, tvthree's movie show, continues into next year. The series is a fast, informative and fun fix for cine-maniacs. Presenter free, each programme consists of movie trailers, interviews, set reports, charts, news and competitions.

The daily tvthree News bulletins at 5:30pm, 6:30pm and 11:00pm with Grainne Seoige, Alan Cantwell, Colette Fitzpatrick and Brian Daly provide a comprehensive digest of Ireland’s top news stories. With weekend news anchor Rachel Smalley, Weatherman Martin King, Darren Frehill at the sports desk and entertainment correspondent Lorraine Keane, tvthree News creates the ideal blend of news and information.

ireland am, Ireland’s most successful breakfast TV show has enjoyed record ratings this year and will continue its popular mix of news, lifestyle stories, celebrity interviews, fashion, fun and entertainment in the new season.

    Ends.

Actually to put the TV3 spin on things. RTE out bid them for the second night. Rick Hetherington in an interview in the Sunday tribune.

Its like, 50% of TV3's shows come from Europe. Not 50% of TV3 shows come from Britain.
