So it got the go ahead from TV3. 30 Episodes to run from 9 to 10 on fridays for the coming season.

However little has been said about the rest of the season. I.e. are they going to bother making any other TV?

And is Eamon Dunphy worth all the money that they are throwing at him? I beleive alot of the budget given to Joan Dunphy (I know I have forgotten her name) is basically his pay cheque.

Has TV3 lost the plot? Are they down and out of high TV ratings? Which TV channel should re-think their Image? Its time to vote out the weakest link. ;)

So are tv3 right to put eamo v pat 23 votes

IMO TV3 could put a puppet up against Pat Kenny and win.

If TV3/Eamonn have the first couple of shows as controversial as possible I think they could win over the viewers.

Could they find no one else but Eamon? From one muppet to another. Well done.

whats the odds he'll have keano as his first guest.

"so roy, ur book says......fantastic book, it says........"
"theres a copy of this fantastic book for everyone in the audience available for e55 from the eamon dunphy stall, just outside the stage door"

    g'wan the dunphy.

think pat will get the axe pretty soon though. think when gay did the show there was 1million people watchin every show. the most kenny has gotten is 600,000.

    :o

Pat gets around 600,000 viewers which is up for him since his Saturday Night show. And his viewers go up during the autume to around 700,000 viewers. So Pat has gained viewers. The Late Late Show has lost viewers but that was to be expected since Gay Byrne left. Also Pat has noone work on a saturday night. RTE didn't replace Gay Byrne they just moved Pat Kenny.

The problem with Pat Kenny is he doesn't seem to ask the right questions. Actually the interviews Gerry Ryan did for "Ryan Confidential" were very good. I especially remember one where he was talking to Sinead O'Connor and acutally made her stop talking crap for a whole 5 minutes, fair play Gerry. And the when he was interviewing Dunphy and he says to him: "I think you LOVE roy keane" then Dunphy gets are embarresed and says "na na gerry it's not true, there's no proof come now....." or something similar.

I think the imaginatively titled Eamon Dunphy Show will do well, Eamo's used to being controversial to get attention, I'm sure it'll work for his show as well.

i'll take a look and see what i think but i dont really care TBH. i think they will both be terrible. Pat Kenny has already established that for himself

Only an hour?! It'll fly by....hopefully!

I suspect Eammo will be pretty bad in terms of smooth presentation technique but then I hope TV3 knew that when they signed him up, it'll suceed or fail on the strength of his guests
and the topics at hand which means if Roy Keane is the first guest I'll not be watching again. If on the other hand he gets Tom McGurk and Eoghan Harris on together it'll be fun! :)

Shouldn't the poll say "Couldn't care less".

Anway, who cares about Eamon Dunphy and Pat Kenny. What age are you? 50?

I think Eamon is going to attract middle aged viewers, while Pat will retain his older viewers

    Who watches Pat Kenny?

I think they will have the same amount of viewers, It will be split down the middle and eventually RTE or TV3 will move one of the shows to Saturday Night where there is no Chat Show. Unless RTE put one on a Saturday night as well. Then It will be up to TV3. Also I don't think Pat will be too impressed if he has to move back to saturdays as he has been waiting for years to get the Friday night. Of course It could go all pear shaped for TV3 and the may have a repeat of The Weakest link where Eamon gets 450,000 for his first night then 250,000 for his second and remain static on 150,000 for the rest of the year. Of course Eamon has the whole either you love or hate him thing going for him, unlike Pat who people are just ok with, i.e you cann't get angry at Pat very easily, no matter how hard he tries.

I could care less. I couldn't Care Less. I don't think it matters, does it. If it does its a typo, and i am very sorry.:D

I never saw a Kenny Live right the way through nor the Late Late for years now but some here might consider it times well spent.
I'll watch Dunphys show if only because being live and on TV3 its all bound to go pear-shaped! :D

I think Dunphy's show will be great!!

I used to listen to his radio show [the Last Word] & I found it both entertaining and informative.

He's not the kind of guy to mince his words or pull punches.

He tended to grill his guests & wasn't afraid to tell them they were dancing around the subject!

I'm hoping it'll be like the Agenda programme with Dave McWilliams ... Same style of interviewing!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

David McWilliams host a Current Affairs show, Eamon Dunphy is getting his own Chat Show. So i dont think they will be very like each other.

Glad I only started a thread about Eamon Dunphy so.

I realize that Agenda is a current affairs programme!!

What I actually meant by the style of interviewing was the fact that Dave McWilliams doesn't take the bullsh1t either!!

Especially evident on his breakfast show on NewsTalk 106.

I read today that TV3 are charging something like €10,000 for an
ad slot during the programme which is twice what RTE charge for same during the Late Late Show...they must be confident.

Thats just to pay for eamon's ego. Then there's his hair.

Also I hope he not just going to have sports stars on, Blah.

And do we really need another Late Late Show style show?

Its not really an alternative to friday night now is it.

In my openion - Eamonn is an all rounder. Pat is good on the hard/political stories. I think if Eamonn's show will suceed - it will need an edge. It will need to be hard hitting.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,925 ✭✭✭RainyDay

Eamo has a face for radio, not TV & definitely not 'light entertainment'

    Hard hitting? An Edge?
Are these really the sort of words we associate with RTE?

Guess who Dunphy is having on his show as a guest.....?

    Roy Keane!

Surprise us, why dont you Eamo?!
"We obviously knew we could get Roy Keane fairly easily, bearing in mind his relationship with Eamon...." Said one insider.

    Mike.

Eric Cantona shall be appearing with Roy Keane, on the one of the first few shows.

The Dunphy show has said that now stars don't have to put up with the arrogance of RTE people.

Now rather they can put up with arrogance live on TV.

TV3 are taking no chances it seems with David McWilliams of Agenda on standby if Eamo should forget to show up for some reason...

I think its daft that TV3 are putting the show up at the same time as the Late Late Show, even if it does well TV3 should put it on saturday night to max their total audience. I mean its not like there are too many Chat show in Ireland (Or Irish TV Show) both can be on if one goes out on a Saturday Night.

I think it should be Dunphy to move since Kenny has been on Friday Night first, I think thats only fair.

Would TV3 not get Matt Copper as stand in :D
