i recently purchased one from ebay/ america, and it works fine in my car using a 12 volt to 4.5 volt adapter.

but when i connect it to the mains in my house , it doesnt work probaply, it lights up but soon after that it stops and dies
on a 12 volt to 4.5 adapter. is it because of the 220 / 110 difference between america and here?

The car voltage is 12v hence the 12v to 4.5v adaptor.

The house voltage is 220v / 50a so you would need a 220v to 4.5v adaptor.

I hope you haven't busted your adaptor

i knew this, and that still isnt powering the cd player, its almost as if the 220 volts is to strong a current compared to 110. i know that it only takes 4.5 volts to power the thing,
