Ok, time to bring you all up to speed on what I have been doing, arguably in your name with our national team.

Firstly we ARE definitely going unless there is a major problem on the French side.

Secondly we are getting at least one and quite probably two large pieces in The Irish Times Computimes section.

We have two sponsors, Spin Solutions (of which more in another post) and HW Group.

That means that we are full in the area of sponsors as there really is only room for two and the cash is pretty much covered.

The interest from the Times in the team is something that we can sell in the future, as are links on the team web page. (Yes there is a team web site in the works. Quite a serious site which Spin Solutions is developing specifically for reporting from France.)

The Times is running the first piece (concentrating on the France v Ireland match) on next Monday and a piece on the local scene and league on the following monday (Kharn you taking notes? <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)"> )

Computerscope will also run a piece for us in their February issue.

I am in the process of setting up a bank account to keep everything above board on the cash side of things. Most likely it will require the signatures of myself and Gerry.
I will post the account details for those people who have offered cash to help the lads out (not EVERYTHING will be covered by the sponsors, in fact prolly just the flights).

The Times has the names of the team we discussed. This team isnt necessarily final but as yet few people have challeneged for a place. I would ideally have prefered more time to finalise the squad but if this all comes off then we will have more oppurtunity to travel and bring teams here! (Something I intend for QPII , oh yes, I didnt mention that, QPII is set for October again.)

If the WDT comes off then we will be better placed then many of our counterparts to tout for sponsorship.

I'll keep you all up to date as I get more info.

BTW if anyone can come up with a decent name in the next 24 hrs we'll go with it as most people think Hibernians is um... not very good.

DeV.

I better get the league site up to date, but no more than yourself Tom, I'm up to my eyeballs in real-life commitments <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/frown.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":(">

To anyone watching, I will get through it sooner rather than later!!! Clan Leaders can help me out here - mail me all the matches and results you've played so far and I'll be able to update the tables in no time.

Right, tell her about the french game and ask her to watch the site and watch out for the publicity it generates.

The teams site will be at www.spinsol.com/quake

It will be up as soon as we think of a good name.

Looking for a name for the team is that it?
Try something Celtic (not too close to CW... but with Celtic anyway, or Celt, or errrrr) or black with mushroom and bubbles, or with a word in Irish, definitely something national, this name you'll use it again and again later.

Now, first French lesson:
dans un bar / in a bar
"une bière s'il vous plait" / "one beer please"
"avec des cacahouetes" / "and some peanuts"
"ou sont les toilettes?" / "where are the toilets?"
"vous avez de beaux yeux Mademoiselle" / "you have pretty eyes Miss"

cya and do train you Quakers

SB_Marie
ze Frenche Quakeress <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/redface.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":o">)

gonna keeel french quaking butt!!!!
green-player = friend!!
blue-player = NME! KEEEL!!!!!

What the hell use is it to order a single beer!!! <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

BTW Neither Spin Solutions nor any of the other sponsors are gonna cough up for booze, before any of yis get any ideas.

Or maybe u could use a sensible name like something that can be used again, anyways "mad for it" is a pure english phrase..

Celtic Core
Clan Celtic
Shamrock Warriors
Celtic Warriors ... oooops some muppet clan already took that one ;P

They are all cack names but u get the idea loike.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,264 ✭✭✭✭Hobbes

"The muck slingers"
"The Pented Potato-eaters"
"The Quaded Leprechauns"
"Turf Warriors" ... oh wait thats taken.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,099 ✭✭✭✭WhiteWashMan

now now now hobbes..... thats just stereotype-cast names. and it isnt funny.
mind you, celtic warriors or whatever is also in the same vain, except it sounds cool and so isnt funny.

so my suggestions are......

the green team (it was gonna be said by somebody<IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">)
team ireland
clan ireland
kerry king klan (kkk hehehehe very pc)
clan of pain (shamrocks and shenanigans.. geddit? no.. doesnt matter)
fourty shades of shamrock green leprechauns
aw.. damn. it dont work.
just call em 'the irish representitives in competative world quake quakeworld deathmatch matchplay playoff series league'

its a bit of a mouthful, but i think it should just about cover all eventuallities <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

The wit coming from this thread is just brilliant. I would add to it but if I did, the thread would probably collapse since Cloud would be laughing too much and he'd take a wrong turn with his mouse.

Oh yeh, team.ie sounds good.
