Drinking is immature i try to think why people want to get to get drunk in the first place but it all seems like a load of tosh.
What do you do? You chuck down a bit of alcohol down and then you begin to feel all happy and weird, walk home funny, then you go to bed feeling crap and maybe throw up.
Next day you gloat to your mates how much you drunk and they call you 'hard'
I've read Tony Adams autobiography about him fighting against his Alcholism plus his life and career. Alcohol ruined his life and almost his career until he decided to stop. In my opinion drinking is all brought up by peer pressure, i like a a beer or 2 or some other alcoholic drink mind you I get drunk on two beers have no problem with the alcohol its the chemicals in the beer that get me, but drinking more has no sense of all other than making you feel good if you have had a bad day for a night and making you 'hard' Oh and 'pulling' girls/guys while you are both drunk and gloating to your mates is not cool, it might be fun but try getting someone using the more sensible way.
    Do people have no logic?
Drink does not just effect you but people all around you, your family suffer, People drink and drive kill people. The drink driver normaly walks away having wrecked inocent lives and their familys . How many times have people woke up saying do I bite my arm off or risk waking whats next to me?
For ugly people drink is a blessing there the clever ones that sit in the dark corner and sem to apear as your vison clouds and resistance crumbles they seem to strike.
Ah sod this Im off for a pint.
But think its a worth while talking point.

My mom would agree with you...so would my dad! I'm the only one in my family who drinks. However, I don't go out with the intention of getting blotto every weekend. Sometimes I end up drunk but I know when to stop. If I feel remotely unwell I stop drinking booze and hit the water.
Most of the people who get hammered and puke everywhere and then brag to their mates are usually teenagers, people who are well below the legal age.
I'm not saying all teenagers are like that because they're not. There are also people of all ages (well older than me...I'm 22) who do the same! I frequently see older business men, well-dressed, stumbling home.
It's all about the way you use it. I wouldn't agree with you when you said "drinking is immature". I like to go out for a "mature" drink with friends. However, the way some people use and abuse alcohol can be immature.
    Am I making sense?

do you think alcohol should be illegal?

I dont drink myself but thats my choice. I have no problem with people who drink.. though im am absolutly unimpressed by anyone who drinks to get drunk and does this as often as they can.

Drinking should not be made illegal though... Smoking yes... drinking no.. smoking in pubs... absolutly should be illegal. thats my stance.

    It's a bit OT.

But the price we pay for having cigarettes out of the domain of the black market, is prolific smokers.

    A quid pro quo.
The same applies to drinking. Perhaps if Irish people were a little better educated about drink and symbols of nationhood were not embodied in things like Guinness, but, rather in things like, art, drinking would be less of a binge-social thing and more of an ammendum to social occasion.

Basically Irish people tolerate getting rat arsed drunk, alot more then other nations, for various historical reasons.

Then again the English and Scottish are as 'bad' give or take, so I think it is more of a mindset vis-a-vis drinking that exists in the British Isles.

Some nations are far more tolerant of Underworld figures, Japan for example and Italy, 'respect' their mafia, where the Irish regard their mafia as thugs.

One man's milk and tea, is another man's misery.

I drink to be socalable, I am suffering a mojor hang over at the moment, because I was out on my last day of holdays with friends and we like to enjoy ourselves. Some of of require drink to loose of inhabitions and get up and dance and although the next day you are sore, I nearly always look back and see I enjoyed the night.

I know my limit and I never drink my self to an incoherent state.
That I think is stupid, not the drink. I have seen people being carried out of pubs and I always think to myself what is the point of doing that.
Drink should never be banned, maybe a bit more moderated my some. The VFI are going to try ban all drinks such as side kicks or drinks that speed up the getting drunk process. I think that is a good idea.
Banning smoking in pubs, NO. It should be the publicans choice. It is after all their business and livley hood. Let them run it as they please.

not everyone's is addicted to the stuff, woint out hat you seem to be talking about is drinking way to much all the time, and i don't know anyone that thinks that a good thing.
do you want to maybe point outwhat the hell your going on about? nobody likes an alcaholic and nobody thinks it's a good thing.. you also seem to making references to it being imature... yet you don't seem to minde bing imature yourself when YOU go out and drink... but we're all the one's in the wrong that doesn't make much sense.

Socrates used to drink people under the table, proudly.
I dont think you could accuse him of being immature.

I drink to get drunk, why? because i can,its my body my money and my life.
I'd say the orginal poster is 15,because it sounds like he hasn't a clue wht he's talking about.

namuras tbh I don't think your in any position to tell people here how drink effects them or their famliy/friends, if you think it's immature the answer is pretty simple, don't drink.

You think 50yr old men gloat to their friends the day after a night in the pub ? or are you talking about the 15yr old who barley kept down 3 cans of dutch gold ? don't generalise about people who drink, and I won't call you a boring aul bollox.

drinking is great craic, plain & simple. I love getting pissed up and laughing at my comrades sleeping at the bar, pissing themselves etc. I used to drink the auld vodka but it left me so depressed the next day, now i just stick to beer & although its leaving me with a great gut, i rarely suffer hangovers.
anyone who doesn't drink, should be made to. fukking pioneers looking down their noses at us lads. its our duty as irresponsible irish folk to keep up this marvellous tradition.

and drink drivers? drink one beer and clip a stupid pedestrian and suddenly your a 'drunk driver'. I totally disagree with drink driving, though i've done it a few times stupidly (drink in = wits out). Wheres this going? i don't know...

i have recently started drinking.About a year ago now. I am 22 so missed out i am a teenager lets get drunk quick phase. I enjoy going out and drinking and know my limit and very rarely go passed it.

A lot of my friends have said that i have changed for the better since i started drinking. i have come out of my shell. I used to be very shy but have improved lately. I am getting to know poeple who i would not have talked to before.

So drinking is ok as far as i am concerned. In moderation i never seen the light in getting blotto and not remenbering who, what, where you were.

You only live once and its your life and choice not somebody else.Thats my stance on drugs to. AS long as people dont force my into something i dont mind them doing it.

I drink because I like the taste of what I drink. If all alcoholic beverages tasted like, say, Dutch Gold, I'd never go near the stuff.

Apart from that, a little alcohol helps loosen me up. I'm generally a very reserved and even shy person. Having a drink or two helps me enjoy myself and my company.

I learned the hard way, and went over the limit a couple of times. Never again, it's just not woth the hassle of being unable to balance or retain your dinner.

People who only ever drink to get drunk are immature. Grow up, realise what you're doing to yourself and how you're annoying the rest of us, and do something about it. And that's that.

So many pivotal things have happened in my life because of drink. Ive engineered fights with people I couldnt stand and they have fooked off out of my life (Im ever so slightly ashamed to say that I dont have the guts to confront people when Im sober). I lose inhibitions and I do things that I wouldnt normally do..... and yes we have all had mad drinking sessions where we wake in the morning and rue the day we ever drank the golden nectar, but on the whole its not ruining our lives or harming us in any hideous way if we keep it under control.

I hope that this is a lame attempt at sarcasim as i for one am not amused.

i chose not to drink for the resaon that i do not like the taste nor the effects that it has on a person, i am not a pioneer but neither have i ever been drunk as i know that if my "inhabitions"(sp?) where to be lowered by drink then i would go postal on ever single smoker in the room for one and then everone that looked at me sideways!!

years of built up anger :D

but i know that people become different when they are drunk and you somtimes see them for what they are really like which is not a good thing for me as i remember the next day while they don't.

Well , to start off , At this point i time , I'm enjoying a refreshing Fink Brau , really , it just has an image problem!.
I have had a really ****e day at work ,so I went to the pub and had two millers, hardly what one would call a piss up . Now If I were to have went home straight after work , the first person to say a single word to me would have been met with a rather cold response. Where as after the pub , i was relaxed and plesant on arrival home, now who here could say that this is an undesirable thing?

    Boring.

I had drink tonight, I had 4 cans of guinness and a few gin and tonics and i had a great night, the banter was excellent...

We discussed everything from George Bush to the life of Brian, I had a great night, and it was because alcohol lubricated the discussion.

As long as you know your limits there is nothing wrong with a bit of gargle....

    Don't be so anal.

    ;)

Talk about melodramatic. Many many many people drink and control it. Theres nothing immature about it namuras. There are many immature people who drink until they're unconscious but its not the drinking thats making them immature, its their immaturity.
Drink does not just effect you but people all around you, your family suffer, People drink and drive kill people. The drink driver normaly walks away having wrecked inocent lives and their familys

When I drink it affects only me.

95% of people who go drinking in pubs niteclubs dont cause any hassel when they are drunk. its just a small minority of people who are giving the drink culture in ireland a bad image. why should we give up our right to have a good time jus because a few eejits want to get absolutely G eyed and make a show of themselves.

Beer, cause everyone needs a hobby.

Reality is the illusion brought on by the lack of alcohol.

Beer, helping ugly people have sex since 1950.

Be at one with the beer.

...and for all you drink-drivers out there(you know who you are)

For it is not the tree that bends, it is you that wraps around the tree.
