Has anyone tried their wireless broadband service?

How good is the connections quality?

    Is the instalation straight-forward?

I got my connection a few weeks ago and everything is working ok. Installation was quite simple and took less than two hours.

they gave me a fixed ip address and i'm running a small network behind a router.

Quality seems to be ok as i haven't noticed any outages though i'not online 24/7 ;-)

    Yes I am a subscriber

Depends on which mast you are subscribing to, but generally, connection quality is piss. For me, pings of 500+ are a regularity and download speeds of greater than 30k are folklore and hearsay. Very rarely do they have outages however, and usually if they are going to pull the plug for a while, they are kind enough to call me.

I think you'll find that many many people have cancelled IBB and moved to Leap, which, from what I hear, is a lot more stable.
    Is the instalation straight-forward?

For me it was anyway. Oddly, it took about 10 people to do it though :p. Some mention of training new contractors etc was mentioned...

Me, Im on the Sandyford tower, and God I love ibb so much!

    I LOVE j00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:) :):)

Great ping and great download rates, and real friendly service too.

They are a god-send. Uncapped too.

Also read other ibb threads tbh, also called wireless etc.

I've had it a nearly 2 and very happy. One thing I notice is from time to time the connection goes dead for 5 seconds or so. Not great for games, but I'm on a brand new node in Leapardstown so I guess they might take a while to get it spick and span.

Installation was very quick, but very expensive!!

I'm regularly getting 60KB/sec though that could have a lot to do with being on a less busy node and I'd expect it to change as they get more people hooked up.

Where do you live in Leopardstown?
I just live opposite the Reservoir gates, it seems we were destined to have great bb.

who me? I'm not really in leopardstown, that was probably a bad way to describe the area.

I'm connected to the new node (using the old 350 install technology) on belmont nursing home, I guess that's galloping green (do you name areas after pubs or pubs after areas?) ... not really stillorgan, not really leopardstown ...

They've stuck a node onto belmont nursing home?

It's not great for games cos of the dropping connection you say tho, pity. Anychance you could ping www.jolt.co.uk for me plz?

if i were to go with IBB id be on that node i imagine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,038 ✭✭✭rob1891

Yep, the node on Belmont is going (they're not so great at advertising such things), but you are to bugger off to eircom because I want it all to myself!!! :P

    Pings to jolt .....

    --- clarity.jolt.co.uk ping statistics ---
100 packets transmitted, 100 packets received, 0% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 33.652/44.465/156.892/20.425 ms

A little erratic, that is caused by the wireless link, but not bad at all.

I don't know why I'm losing connections in games, might run a ping for a little longer and see if I experience the few seconds of total loss of connection that I have done.

    regards,

    Rob

Ok, I'm getting IBB out to do a site survey.

Are there any questions I should ask the technicians when they come out?

Do they supply any special software, I use a dual-boot win XP pro and linux mdk9.1?

    IBB pings on 3-rock:

All you need is an ethernet card, there is no software needed, other of course than the firewall you're going to need.

and its like that every, sometimes worse. I get lag spikes in games! i never got that on 56k, and i could get stable ping of 150 on it. I was very dissapointed with this, as i had been told by them that pings were "low and stable" which is obviously not the case. They say its because i use the frequency hopping hardware... but this is very annoying. Unfotunately they only garuntee download speeds not pings :-(

But most times i can download at 50k+ , except at peak hours. then its pitiful.

Does anyone know how to solve/help witht the bad pings?
