Its sad when such a well established band churns out such shi7. I suppose its not their fault as the production method they used was changed(why is beyond me). After making such Uncomparable albums they churn out Nu-metal sounding drivel. I just want an opinion on what other ppl think.

So what do you think of it 17 votes

I think there are some pretty decent songs on St Anger, St Anger being one of them. It takes a lot of listening to like the album but it has seriously grown on me.

As soon as I start covering the album at gigs, I defiantely gonna add some solos to them though!!!

Some good, some bad. All in all quite an average ho-hum album. They can do better.

It does take som elistening to but I find myself taking a likin to some of it, especially the chorus to St.Anger - classic "kill 'em all" material. Shame the rest of the song is quite disjointed, although ranging from good to alright

Think it's pretty good myself. They played St Anger downstairs in The Oak on Saturday night - was brilliant just to watch me mate going nuts air guitaring in the middle of the floor. Think the whole place was watching him, me stood well back.

Even after listening to the album several times it still hasnt grown on me, where are all the blistering guitar solos :p. It was described by metallica as being "the most stress free album we have worked on", its no wonder really when they produced such rubbish compared to their earlier work:(.Although I still cant wait to see them in concert:D

There's some pretty good riffs, but I hate the new sound; downtuned, overtoned, slipknotesque.

But you have to admit the tuning on Invisible Kid is fairly bloody cool. At least it's produced some nice guitar (the grynch, 7 string kh-2, gibson custom)

It's sad they've nearly eliminated the whole aspect of their guitar :( . More solo's and it'd be better

ON the topic of solos, why are guitar solos scripture in metal music? Hmm?

The lack of a solo does not necessarily mean a song isn't good. Granted, there are a couple of places in some of the songs on the album where a solo would work rather well (which sadly wasn't followed throuh on) as pointed out in a previous thread by Pornapster.

The CD is more like a concept album than anything else. Bob Rock and the boys (i think they took a back seat to his manical ideas) decided they would write some crazy music, badly record it with crap equipment, wait till the last minute to write the lyrics. use most stuff from the first take. then run it through the computer , cut and paste bits of the songs in random order and not master it to a polish.
It kinda grows on you though

Like most posters here, it kinda grew on me. Still not as good as previous material, but it's OK.

Wouldn't mind going to see them in Dublin though...

to be honset i think its good that theres no solos , not bein an asshole or anything but kirk hammet isnt a great lead guitarist , his solos on the last few albums have completely gone down hill....5 note pentatonic borefest , although they did suit some of the songs . his solos on the black album and puppet were much more fluid and better

What about the solos on Garage Inc. and S&M? The No Leaf Clover solo is pretty cool in all fairness. He isn't the greatest guitarist ever but he is bloody good!!!

Is it possible to have a conversation about Metallica that doesn't descend into spam?
