Can necessarily say this is a better brand, but it is certainly cheaper at €139.00:

To be honest, 1800DPI is a woefully low resolution for a film scanner, but if yore ma just intends to print snapshot sized prints either should be okay.

However, for €191.00 (roughly equivalent to the £130.00sterling) you could get this:
    http://s28489807.einsundeinsshop.de/sess/utn153ed5099d11502/shopdata/0095_Scanners/0020_transparent+Scanners/0080_Reflecta/product_details.shopscript?article=0050_Reflecta%2BSILVERscan%2B3600%2B%3D28SD87634604%3D29
with twice the resolution (3600DPI) and it comes with Silverfast.

Germany based New York Camera are reputable (a few regulars here have bought from them and I certainly have no hesitattion recommending them).

ahhhh, that's a sweet site. i had to tear myself away from the digital camera section to check out the slide scanners ( bookmarked for later:)) ...
thanks a million anyway, that was excactly what i was looking for.

Is there anyway to make your conventional scanner to scan negatives?

i ordered the Silverscan 3600 tuesday night. the invoice email & order forms were a little... dodgy... to say the least.
they'd better be as reputable as you say:(

PH01, i tried scanning both slides & negatives with a flatbed scanner with varying degrees of gheyness. as far as i know these yolks are one of the only affordable options out there.

anyway, it should hopefully be here during the week sometime, i'll give my verdict then.

I don't make recommendations lightly, or on a whim.

    it's cool, i have faith:)

here's what was sent to me in the conformation email, i just assumed they would've put a bit of effort into the english translation.
Your merchandise will leave here in about between three and five days.

Have fun with your new equipement!

If you have any further question please let us know our
door is always open for you!!

    Have a nice week

    best regards

before ordering i had to figure out how much the scanner weighed so i could select the correct postal option, i had to use a different site to find that out, the info on their equiptment is pretty lacking to say the least.

i'm a complete newbie to ordering stuff online, so that had me kind of freaked out...

cool beans, they were temporarily out of stock, it should be here tomorrow/start of next week.
sorry about giving you gyp over it, its just pretty worrying when you're using someone elses credit card to buy something & you get no feedback on the wherabouts of the goods.
