And erm, how do i check what kinda of ram i have, pc1300 ? or something ?

    Thanks.

They're not allowed I'm afraid. They don't let you use any laser equipment such as CDs, DVDs or, alas, MDs. Best way is to go back to the past - and record your music onto a tape for the flight tomorrow. In the long term an mp3 player would be fine for the plane.

AFAIK it depends on the airline ...

Maybe she was looking to see if you wanted to be a member of the mile high club?

airlines ive flown with never did allow it as laser equipment interferes with the internal stuff.

If u have a laptop u could use that ww)

well minidiscs are a magnetic format rather than laser...
you can use laptops which have magnetic discs, so i assume you can use minidisc...

either by checking your bios setup...
or download an app like sisoft sandra (there are a few small specialised programs for this too, i just can't remember their names)

thanks man, i read the manual i got with my PC.

    says i have RD ram,

    socket 1 : 128 mb
    socket 2:
    socket 3:
    socket 4:

if i buy, 256mb and 256 mb for socket 3 and 4 and leave socket 2 empty, that wouldnt make a diffrence will it ?

Do i need to buy the same speed (eg pc1300 >?) of ram ?
    i dont know my speed.

Minidiscs work almost exactly the same way CDs do.

They indeed do have a laser (take a look inside one for that little thing covered by glass)

I wasn't allowed use my discman on a transatlantic flight, but I was allowed use my laptop. I think the unspoken rule was that I should not use the cd drive, but I dunno really. I think it varies between airlines. I thought an airbus 330 would have decent interference suppression equipment, if learjet can do it, why can't they?

No electronic laser devices are allowed on-board just about any aircraft.
The more modern the aircraft the more likely it is susceptible to interference. For example a BAE146 barely even has a computer on board whereas an Airbus A320/21/30 has a plethora of electronic systems which may or may not be susceptible.

This includes minidiscs, cd-roms, dvd's, cd's, at all times. Other electronic devices are also included during takeoff approach and landing.

erm, you wouldn't have any empty slots with rdram... are you sure that's what you've got?
if it is you can get a continuity (sp?) strip for the slot that won't have any ram in it...

you *should* buy the same speed ram, it's not essential tho.
faster ram would work at the same speed as the slowest chip & slower ram would take the speed down a notch.
mixing different speed ram is a bit of a grey area, i can't really guarentee itt'l work, just say that it prolly will.

i'm pretty tired, so take everything i say with a grain of salt... or something.......
    /me goes to bed

ipod........sure I had no problem using it all winter season!!!

Stewardesses came over, but when I showed that there was no removable media (or moving parts ;) ) they were fine, just asked me to turn it off during take off/landing.

i snowboard, and was on 8 flights between Jan and April.

The issue has been the subject of numerous discussions on the net (the reg for one). Basically it has never been proven thet they cause interference but airlines still insist.

If you are flying charter then they usually let you, even on the same aircraft type... go figure.

The situation is ridiculous - if i can take down an aeroplane with a cd player then i'm never flying again

    p.s now where's me boxcutters...

I've never had a problem with my MD player on flights, either to/from scotland and trans-atlantic or internal Canadian.

Only thing was specific requests to turn any electrical devices off for take-off and landing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,081 ✭✭✭BKtje

I can see the headlines now,

    Irish terrorist crashes planes.
Bush bans the use of MD's worldwide.
World prepares for War as US military surround all shops, factories and homes selling/owning MD players.

(ok little far fetched but still :p )
I really am quite bored :(

A lil late since yer probably on d plane but check the website, most will list off whats allowed and not allowed. Alot airlines will allow the use of laser equip at cruising alt only, but the vast majority prefer to just say no!

I took a flight to Africa last summer (10 hour job) and they just announced that such equipment should be turned off during take off and landing and not to worry during flight ie. crusing altitude.
