Just wondering what is the main difference between an ordinary P4 and a celeron P4?I am going to buy a dell laptop, both chips are the same speed but the celeron is obviously cheaper.IF you say have a 2.2Ghz celeron is that like a 1.7-1.8 normal P or does it get worse
    Thks

The celerons have a lower ammount of cache (on chip memory) than the P4 models.
Celeron have 128kb cache & the P4 have 512kb cache.

Would definetly recomend staying away from the celeron, there is a big performance difference - its worth paying the extra bit.

The other thing you have to remember is efficiency. The celeron is going to use pretty much the same amount of power ( provided its a northwood celeron ), but it will perform worse. So you will be getting less battery life as well. The pentium 3-m and pentium M laptops are far easier on the battery than p4 based laptops. Perhaps have a hunt around for one of them. Pentium M is way faster, but more expensive. Pentium 3-m is a bit slower, but still faster than a p4 of the same speed.
