I've wanted to get my tongue pierced for ages but I work in a call centre at the mo and can't go without being able to speak for more than 2 days. How long do I need to go without speaking after getting it done? Bear in mind I have to talk a lot at work.

Those of you with tongue piercings out there, how long was it before your voice returned to normal?

Hey. My best mate got her tongue done a few months ago. She works in an insurance company and has to answer phones but she got by! Her speech returned to normal after a few days. As long as it takes for the swelling to go down.
You're better off getting it done on a Friday and by Monday you should be fairly ok.

ice cubes or ice pops are great for bringing down the swelling as well...

Id say a few days too, the day after you get it pierced you get a very sore throat.. It sucks.. but it only lasts about a day, by then the swelling in my tongue had gone down anyway and I could talk normally.. Although a friend of mine who just got her tongue pierced kept doing this slurping thing for like a week which was very annoying.. Dont worry about it, its all worth it in the end.. Oh yeh and I heard mouthwash numbs your tongue a little and really cold water.. (",)

alcohol-free mouthwash is grand to use.

I just got it done. I can talk but it's harder than usual. Bit sore on the bottom at the mo but it didn't hurt at all getting it done. Cheer for the advice, I have the mouthwash, the good people at "Body Shock" supplied this stuff called "Tech 2000 - advanced technology dental rince" no less.

your going to have great difficulty talking as i discovered as i gave up for about 5 days.
I could talk ok the day i got it done but then.....at first your tongue will swell up which will obviously make it difficult but also when the swelling begins to recede you also have a larger bar in your tongue to allow for swelling but when this gets a little freedom and starts moving about it also slurs your speech but you cant really change that bat for about 2 weeks.

Many people said i sounded like i was drunk so i gave up.
Talking over the phone would be very hard.

I mainly existed on an ice-cream diet but i dont think it helped the sweeling one bit to be honest.

There's an anti-deflamitory spray called difflam you can get from most pharmacies which can help with the swelling :)

bah my boyfriend notices no difference. i got mine done and was talking with a slight lisp for bout 3 days. thought id loose lots of weight by not eating but after like 2 days i got a burger in mc donalds and MADE myself eat it cos i was starving.

anyone notice how weird your tongue feels when u take the piercing out, its mad!

also if u get it done try not to take yokes till you get uste to it or the bar shortened cos ull chew it out of your mouth without realising.

    lukek:)

Well thanks for all of that everyone. After the first week, it was back to normal, drinking and munching on steaks. After 2 weeks, the bar I had in was too big so just got that replaced today. It's been good since then, for the first time women have started chatting ME up in the pub. Life is good.

I can't remember what it was like not to have the piercing and I look forward to using it as often as possible...... ;)
