What's James Cameron up to?

James Cameron has never been the most prolific of directors but it's now 6 years since his last feature film and I was wondering if he's ever going to get round to doing another project? IMDB lists his various theme park/imax/tv projects over the past half-decade but it makes no mention of any features either in production or pre-producation.

Any one know what the deal with Cameron is? Has he had enough of feature films? Iis he just enjoying the quiet life on the profits of Titanic or what?

I remember reading somewhere that he's gotten very into deep-sea exploration, and is making some kind of underwater documentaries, or something of the sort. I'm sure he'll be back to directing at some stage, but I think for the moment he's taking some 'Cameron-time' for himself :p

I wouldn't say he's enjoying the quiet life, he's still up to a lot. He's started focusing on non-directing assignments, such as writing/producing a few TV shows (most notably Dark Angel, which he created). But mainly he's been focusing on a 'labour of love'. He made a documentary about himself, Bill Paxton and a few others exploring the wreck of the Titanic in a submersible. It's pretty entertaining in a Discovery Channel kind of way.

Other than that - he's not up to much. He's trying to get a fifth Alien movie made, with him writing and Ridley Scott directing, but this is very much still in the conceptual stages.

Oh, he's also been popping up a lot recently because of Terminator 3 - I read a quote from him recently saying he hopes it does really well, but then again, he hopes it's really, really bad. He's a little bitter about that whole thing :D

Yeah, most of what he's focused on recently is the Titanic documentary, Secrets of the Abyss. It's a pretty amazing piece of work, although I wish Bill Paxton would just shut the hell up and stop whooping about everything in it...

He's allegedly talking to Ridley Scott about making Alien 5 (Cameron writing, Scott directing)... Also interestingly, he's bought the rights to a number of anime series, most notable Battle Angel Alita, with a view to developing feature length live-action or CG movies based on them.
