Not too sure if this is the right place for this, if its not let me know.

I was thinking of getting corrective laser sugery on my eyes soon and I was just wondering has anyone had this done or know of anyone who had it done.

Just really looking for some people to relate their experiences, good or bad. Any recomendations or stuff I should watch out for?

search for "lasik" on these forums, you'll see some scare stories.

My Dad had it done and has thrown away his glasses, worked a treat for him.
One of his friends had it done on Dad's recommendation tho' and it did nothing for him. Walked in to the pub a while after and said "You'll never guess who I bumped into today", "Who?" we said.
    "Everyone!"
    Funny guy.

I had it done but mine was for a different reason. It was used to try and repair an injury i got to my eye it did improve it a bit but i was told before that it was not going to fix it totally so i was happy.

Getting it done: it's not that sore but it is a little bit for a little while afterward so you're better of going to sleep when you get home.

A friend of mine paid €4,000 for his operation on both eyes just a few months back. It was expensive but he's very pleased with the results.

From an item I saw on telly, it can go wrong (but hey, so can any op). For example, if the flap on the eye (under which the laser does its bit) is cut to open to the side (as opposed to opening upwards), there's a possibility it will sag and cause some discomfort/blurry vision. But I believe that's pretty rare. Also, after it's done, just like everyone else, it is possible for the vision to deteriorate as you age.

A friend of mine had it done about three years ago. She was thrilled with it, and I was very surprised how fast it was recovery-wise. From what I can remember she said it cost about IR£3000 (open to correction). Not sure where she got it done though.

I think I'll stick with my contacts for the time-being...

    It is what it's.

i saw on tele that it can make your vision much worse, cloudiness in your eyes etc.

    Look Here

Some ppl's views here also, there are other threads about it, just do a serch for Laser or Laser Surgery, u should find some other opinions.

I was hoping to do this some time in my life but dont like the idea of something other than my finger touching my eye :/

IMHO, go for it if u like the idea :)

I got it done on one eye about six/seven years ago and have had no trouble at all since. The reason I only had one done was because my prescription was small enough (bout a -1.75) for my brain to be able to compensate for the differential and because everyones eyes head from short-sightedness to long-sightedness as you naturally get older my undine eye will eventually come into its own. They said I wouldnt need glasses until Im about 80 -- not that I plan to be about then.

Also my dads insurance was covering it then (Garda) not sure if it still is now but I think it was bout £3000 for the one.

I looked into getting it done this year, but reading around tends to suggest that around 5% of people end up with some kind of sight defect afterwards - usually ghosting on images, or poor night vision.

Sorry, this is my eyesight and one in twenty isn't good enough. Went and got contact lenses instead, and I've been very happy with them so far.

Would my VHI cover it I wonder..
I wear glasses for driving, computers, tv, cinema etc but I have noticed my sight getting worse and I think I squint when I'm not wearing them. Would love not to have to wear glasses

I had it done last year and im very happy with it.. oh there are some small problems like my right eye is not quite as good as my left but its not so bad vision wise.. its an astigmatism i always had.. it corrected it at first but it came back (its clear but text is slightly off). Still my eyes are better than when i had glasses even.

The only real drawback is a slight photosensitivity so sunlight.. ironically its the best light for seeing in.. artificial light makes my eyes tired.. like right now... damn office...

As for halo effects and night vision... well actuall yes at first but usually after 6 months at most... they are gone for the most part so at night once my eyes have adjusted i can see light better than most people (hence photosensative in day). So good for stargazing :D

I paid just over €4K and got about €1200 back in tax. Cheaper in the UK or NI but if something goes wrong or needs to be adjusted its a lot of travel back and forth. There is also a new procedure that golfers like Tiger woods have had that make your vision much better and improves night vision too so some Millitary get it done. Probably more expensive though.

Same here... not worth risking it at all.
