Ehh i suppose its kind of down to the user.. I know when i get it I wont be to much in danger of going over.. Ill be just getting plenty of songs really, and 5gbs of songs.. well thats a hell of alot and I dont think id do that in a month on songs alone. Id say 1 gb on songs.. then you have gameing.. say anther 1gb a month if uer a really big gamer, then you have 3 left really for browsing, streaming (not sure how intense streaming is on downloads, anybody?) downloading other files. Id say your biggest problem would be if ure into downloading Full lenght films.. even though ure not supposed to be .. tut tut.. well one of those is in the region of say 600 to 800 megs a pop... so like 4 of those could send you over.

Down to personal use really :/

simple one == ESAT UTV cap = 5000 megs (about) divid by 31 = 161.3 megs a day

my average browesing takes around 6,8 megs a hour
    9 hours a day = 61,2 megs
leaveing 100 meg for gameing :)

and of course the likelyhood of me being online for 9 hours + gameing is not high

and seeming i have no interest in downloading movies etc i should be ok

    or 6.8 meg,s * by 9 * 31 = 1.8 gig leaveing 3.2 gig

But if your looking for d/ling id go with netsources

It depends what you are using your connection for. 5GB is plenty for online gaming, particularly Xbox Live gaming. Xbox Live will download 15MB per hour at the most. If however you are downloading MP3's or other large files, then 5GB may not be enough.

Going slightly off topic, does anyone know how much download is used when viewing a webcam? I know it depends greatly on the video quality and the frame rate. How much download would you use downloading a high quality video stream at a decent framerate?

I was reading an about a press conference in the states and in australia, and bill gates mentioned that Xbox live only use 9-10MB maxium, So if you plan on using only Xbox live with your internet connection it would be a good idea to go for Eircom, or UTV (Since no one has UTV i dont know about the pings but i presume theyll be around eircom standards). So to put it simpler 1GB = 100 hours of gaming and if u use ur whole cap thats 400 hours with eircom, and 500 wih UTV. Now a normal PC game takes up around 30-40, so you would only really get maybe 130+ plus hours of gaming per month on a 4gb cap. So for PC gaming id go for a higher cap.

I d/l Family Guy episodes. Most of the good quality ones are about 215Mb and are 22 minutes long. They add up pretty quickly.

If your going to be browsing, gaming downloading the odd thing here and there then youll be fine. Even if you download a good few mp3's regularly youll be ok.

The problem begins to occur when you start whoring DC or Kazaa. If you start to download films, tv series and general warez on a regular basis you will smash your cap.

Youll probably do this anyway for the first month or so and probably wont be charged. However, again probably, youll find that youll get kinda 'bored' of trying to download the internet (e.g., theres only so many games you can warez and not actually play, TV series have a finite amount of episodes etc etc) and your usage will settle down and you will more than likely find its usually within the cap or just over.

Pc gaming could easily be 40mb/h depending on the game and how much bandwidth you allow it to use.
Thats about 128 hours of continous gaming (based on UT with a netspeed of 10000, most broadband users would use a netspeed of 20000 but servers sometimes caps it at 10000 to save bandwidth)

Games like BF1942 use more as they have a very large amount of players on em. It really does depend on the game and what setting u got it on,.

i have the same problem, i am only an online gamer nothing else, i buy my own cds and my own DVDs, i use it just for emails, browsing and Games. I can spend up yo 10 hours a day online sum days playing various games such as Mohaa or BF1942 or Wolfenstein. Which provider should i go for im thinking of getting Eircom because they have really good pings, 20-30 on jolt and 120-130 on USA servers.

Something which may be of interest:
I was looking at the irishbroadband.ie site and noticed this:
All you pay is a flat monthly charge allowing you to use the Internet for as long as you like and with no download limits.

I take it by just pure commen sense that a cap reloads its self on the 1st of every month right? So if my broad band was turned on mid month, I would have 5 gbs to use up in two months correct?

    i douth it

it must be once a month from the date you where turned on i hope :D

Im gona get the Eircom Multi Package which is RADSL with a 1024/256K connection and a 10GB cap which works out to around 8-10 hours a day of gaming. I dont actualy play Games 10 hours a day flat but i Stay on Gamespy For around then, i turn on GS and jus chat dont play games to much. I want to get Netsource SME but Its pings suck compared to Eircoms, Eircom = 20-30 Netsource = 60-70. and plus im looking to play on USA servers

iStream Multi is an ADSL package not an RADSL one. This means that interleaving is much higher on the line and your ping will be more like 60 to irish servers.

Ah crap that sucks. The only Good ADSL is Esat Buisness but i cant get it, and the only RADSL with no cap is SOHO for netsource which is terrible. God damn it im screwed either way. It looks like Netsource SME is the best 60-70 pings on UK and 160-170 on USA

Do the caps relate to just download traffic or total traffic (ie - including upload)?

It's called a download cap so I presume it's the former. Does this mean you can upload as much as you want?

Pure common sense unfortunately makes poor practical sense.

There is no carry over of the cap from month to month.

You would have 2 weeks to use 4 Gig. Then it resets.

    4 gig up / 4 gig down.

Netsource SME = Eircom ADSL, just a resold version of the same thing.

I have i-stream solo (adsl) and my pings are fine (40-50 irish servers, 50-80 uk).

No type of current broadband will give you good pings to the USA. Even if you get 120, everyone there will be on 20 ping.
