Remember those StarCom toys (80s) they were like spaceships that linked togeather and had metal panels which the little men could stick to through the little magnets in their shoes. Most of the them had some kind of mechanical movements that were really cool and you didn't need to buy batteries for every 2 days, They Rocked!

Yeah they were the business alright. My brother had a kind of space station. You stuck one of the little jaffers to the floor and rotated a lever.... A magnet rotated under the 'floor' which moved him in an arc through a little mechanical 'airlock' with the doors seeming to open in front of him.

    Genius!

Yep, I remember "StarCom". If I remember correctly, "Starcom - The US Space Force", to give it it's full title, was a sort of semi-US government funded or developed ploy to try and revive flagging interest in the US space programme in kids. There was a cartoon about the adventures of "StarCom" against the bad guys, the "Shadow Force", along with the obligitory line of toys to go with the cartoon.

To be honest, the cartoon wasn't that great, I thought, and the animation wasn't that great either (for something that had the backing of the US government you'd think they would have given it a few more bucks to make the animation better). However, the toys themselves were pretty cool because they had this "Power Deploy" system where various things on the ships and stuff would change or move around but, unlike most toys of the time (and today, as well, I guess) relying on batteries, they were operated on a sort of mechanical, clockwork-type system. The figures and some of the toys had magnetic strips on them ("Magna Lock") to enable them to be attached together or moved around magnetically. Some of the toys could also fit into the cargo bays of the larger toys as well.

I had a few of the toys myself. I had the:

1: StarCom Astro Marines Laser R.A.T (Picture here: http://www.nemesisworld.com/starcom/images/toys/laserrat_cl.jpg)

    2: StarCom Star Wing F-1400 Starwolf (http://www.nemesisworld.com/starcom/images/toys/starwolf_cl.jpg)

    3: StarCom Star Wing SF/B Starhawk (http://www.nemesisworld.com/starcom/images/toys/starhawk_cl.jpg)

4: Shadow Force Starmada Shadowbat (http://www.nemesisworld.com/starcom/images/toys/shadowbat_cl.jpg)

5: Shadow Force Starmada Shadow Parasite (http://www.nemesisworld.com/starcom/images/toys/parasite_cl.jpg)

A friend of mine had the really cool (well, I thought it was) StarCom Star Wing Starmax Bomber (http://www.nemesisworld.com/starcom/images/toys/starmax_cl.jpg).

I had a few of them, They rocked. Loved the way most of the folded into little cubes and could be swaped around with each other.
