guitar rash

this is sort of Instruments/Personal Issues

if i play my bass fast - ie: some quick punk downstroking for about half an hour, i get an irritation on the part or the underside of my bare arm which periodically rubs of the body of my guitar. its that sort of rash feeling you get off fiber-glass. HOWEVER this only occurs sometimes, but its still annoying.

The obvious solution is to wear long sleeves but i can get pretty frantic while playing music like this and i get too hot for anything more than a t-shirt. this itchy rash type thing can also appear on my belly if i'm not wearing a top or my top just rides up with the movement and other places:eek: if play nekkid (yes, i'm probably sharing too much there)

i'm presuming its the coating on the body thats causing it, its the same paint as one finds on a fender p-bass.

    its really fookin annoying me!!!!!!
does it happen to anyone else?
    anyone have any solutions/tips?

ps - i cant afford a new bass and anyway i love this one and no i'm not gonna change music either.

    cheers

    ferdi

Could it be an allergic reaction? Maybe consulting a doctor might help. Even if it isn't an allergic reaction he'll probably recommend something to stop it.

I thought they were just an ironic fashion statement until I tried them out. My arm use to start bleeding because it was rubbing off the scratch pad on my bass on heavy down strokes. You can get some decent long black Nike ones and once you get over the fact that you're wearing one you'll never look back. Next time you're at a gig have a look and see if the bass player has one... Foo Fighters and QOTSA to name but a few.
