I'm about to purchase one of these puppies, unless anyone out there has a horror story I need to know about :)

Has anyone got opinions on this gear? Is it worth the price? Are there better options around?

Basically I'm after a decent/secure ADSL modem solution and my investigations lead me to this netgear DM602 solution and a DLINK option, but my preference right now is the netgear.

What do yez think of this product lads? ;)

ps. Also looking to know where I can buy some ADSL microfilters for the house. I've heard its better to include these on all phone sockets, not just the one the ADSL modem is connected to.. that make sense? Anyways - where can I get these things?

Eircom sell microfilters for 25 Euro for a pack of 3. Can I ask where you are getting your modem/router from and how much you are paying for it?

I've heard some rumblings about a netgear model (don't remember if it's the same mdoel as you're looking at) regards severe overheating.

I just went to the netgear.co.uk site, and checked out the 'where to buy' page which lists the various stockists / retailers in the UK. Most of them will ship to Ireland.

Worst case you can also get it from Amazon.co.uk :)

    However I noticed this article...

    http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DM602&pm=416

...and now I'm not sure if this will work in Ireland or not. Any ideas?

That doesn't bode well. If the modem part of it doesn't work in the UK, then I wouldn't risk it. There are plenty of other modem/routers that work on UK phone systems.

Funny you should post that link c0y0te, as I bought the Thomson Speedtouch 510 V4 off the same crowd last week. Highly recommended with a decent selection.

I bought its big brother a Netgear DG824 2 months ago and have had no problems. I got it from http://www.everymancomputers.com/ price was competitive and delivery happened with no issues. Speak to Simon.

The 602 is a basic modem, but at least it has dual eithernet/usb which can be useful. Features of other models further up the range include router/gateway capability, NAT, firewall, ethernet hub/switch, wireless hub. But of course these cost more. The real issues are (1) will you ever want to concurrently connect ore than one computer (2) if the box doesn't do the firewalling where will it get done.

    Spud_Gun....

Can you drop me a link to where eircon are selling those microfilters?

Or in fact - can anyone recommend where the cheapest ADSL microfilters can be found?
