1. Thou shalt not bicker incessantly on IRC about who was right and who was wrong about ANYTHING. Take it to a private if only the two of ye are interested.

2. Constant *****ing about someone "nicking" yer frag is not allowed for it is lame. Joking about it is grand.

2a. Nicking frags is even worse! (this rule only applies to Slosh)

3. Carrying arguments from the server to IRC is frowned upon. We dont care.

4. Infantile behaviour will not be tolerated.
This includes the current widespread belief among muppets that the word "willy" is amusing in and of itself.

5. Rascism is right out of line....K-line.

6. Shooting your own team is a dead no-no and will result in kicking from the server and banning from IRC (this is the only exception to rule 3). Ruining another persons game is the lowest form of muppetry and needs to be dealt with harshly.

7. Repeated swearing shows a dire lack of imagination and mastery of the English language and spams the other players.
Highly offensive/personal language towards
another player is NEVER required or justified. Its just a game.

8. Flooding, ping bombing, nuking etc are all bold.

9. Attempts circumvent these rules by finding loopholes (such as naming yerself willy-shakespeare) are pointless. I'll simply apply them regardless.

10. Anything else I can think of on the spur of the moment. I am not your dad. I am not required to be nice to you. I am not the final arbitrator of all arguments. I will ignore you studiously if you ***** at me.


To refer to what Shinji has posted. Yes, the worry about a dictatorship is always in the back of my mind. So the only dictator I trust is ME.

I was the founder of Electronic Frontier Ireland and some of you may recognise the connection to the EFF. I dont accept censorship but I do accept moderation of an area to increase signal-to-noise ratio.

I believe most ppl know me and trust my judgement. I usually give plenty of warning before taking any action and this list can be considered warning too. I'm not the only OP either.

Finally, if enough ppl didnt like it, they can talk to Shiva and have my ops taken away.

Dev, i'm not sure publishing these rules on the board was *such* a good idea..firstly, i dont think the people you are trying to target with them..(i.e: the common muppetus ****icus to give its scientific defintion)..will take them seriously, they dont take anything seriously really..except when it involves personal comments about them. Especially when it comes from a semi-authoritative figure in #quake like urself. Secondly...they will go out of their way to break these rules as much as they can on irc. Not to put u down or anything but this is what i think will happen, and im sure you do too.

God, I think I'll have to plaster my posts with those ugly smileys from now on. (verbal crutches for the cripples of eloquence).

As for posting the rules, I didnt expect ppl to take much notice but now they cant say they weren't warned.

One thing I dont like is OPs jumping on *MY* (obl <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif&quot; WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)"> ) bandwagon. This is not excuse for old grudges to surface.

Things have gotten better lately and we had a decent discussion on which level to replace UK4 with (e1m2 see other post)recently. So it is working, but I dont want #quake to become a nazi zone but there is an inbetween. So far I've kicked bugger all ppl but I dont intend to stop and as I've said things are calming a bit.

I DO have a sense of humour, anyone whose met me for 5 mins will tell you that but I get thick when one persons actions *intrudes* in some way on another persons enjoyment of the net/quake.

If I was to sum up the rules in one that would be it.

i no my opinion never counts as much as yee dont take me seriously but i do back dev's latest attempt to try calm the kids down.......and i will abide by these rules/commandments set by a fellow op ........
