My Cap...

I've finally gotten broadband and I'm with eircom now, but I'm a little confused over my cap. I downloaded DU_Meter to keep a check on how much I've downloaded.

At the moment, it says I've downloaded 1.16GB. However, I found a thing on eircom's site for checking how much I've downloaded ( http://dslstats.eircom.net/ ). It says I've downloaded 713mb. So, which is right? If I'd to guess I'd say DU_Meter is wrong, but I'd hate to download what eircom says is 4GB, and then get a huge bill.

    Any advice?

Is the DU meter a download and upload metre? If it is then that could be why the difference occurs, i.e. download plus upload. I may be wrong about this as I have never used DU_meter.

I would imagine that the Eircom version would be the better of the 2 in my opinion as Eircom support that tool, and therefore must charge based on it. If you have doubts, ring Eircom and ask them how much you have downloaded so far. If it matchs the amount that the Eircom tool says (which it should), then you are sorted.

just make sure you've setup DUmeter up correctly, not to record data to all network devices. I noticed that Dumeter is recording all my network traffic aswell as the intenet connection

Thanks -- I think I'll email eircom (I never do trust them on the phone :))

I had the same problem on IWISP...
    Here's how to fix it:

    - Right click the DU-Meter icon in the taskbar
    - Click options..
    - At the bottom of that box you'll see "Network interface to monitor".. Change it from "All Interfaces" to "Dial up connections only"
    - Press ok..

What DU meter was doing was counting all of the traffic going through your ethernet card and your modem, effectively meaning it's counting the data twice, hence the 1.16GB figure.

Let me know how you get on,
    David
