I was in hmv on friday and saw an abundance of Rocky and Rambo box sets going cheap in a kind of mini sale.

I bough the 5 disc Rocky box set for €45 and the Rambo trilogy for €30, which are £39 and £41 respectively on play.com. So tbh its not a bad deal at all, even if the movies are not of the highest calibre, they are still quite enjoyable to watch.

The magnificent 7 box set was there too along with a few others, which i cant recall the price of.

Xtravision have the first one, in a two dic set. This amounts to the box set, without the inferior second movie, for 15 yoyos.

I didn’t see it there, but i picked it up around christmas for €30 so i'm sure you'll find it for less now

One great movie, one terrible movie and two in between movies.
    :D

I've only the first one & there's an extra documentary, cast commentary on the main feature, trailers for all four and a nice stills gallery. Worth picking up on its own.

They also had the Koyaanisqatsi / Powaqqatsi Box Set (its really a trilogy, but you only get the first two in this) on sale for about €14. Personally i hated the first ten minutes of the first film, and couldn't bear to watch the remaining 1 hr 30mins. Saying that though, my brother bought it last year and has watched both at least 3 times, i dont know how

Jesus, I didn't realise they did more of them. Way to go to ruin a classic.

are the rambo films actually good ?

I've yet to watch rambo 2+3, so i bought the boxset solely on the basis of liking the first. My friend reckons 2+3 to be crap but he enjoyed 'save the last dance'. So i find his opinion to be unreliable

I bought the Magnificent Seven boxset last time they had a sale and they had the French Connection one then so I reckoned they would have it now too.
Actually I still havent watched any of the Magnificent Seven dvds.

The first Rambo movie is excellent. It really is a good story. Based on a book I believe.

Great action movie with plenty of gore.
The bit where he sews his arm up is something else. As is him in the forest taking out everyone

Correct me if I'm wrong - but I think I read in the paper that the Rocky and Rambo boxsets were only going for that price on the first day of the sale... so for any of you thinking of buying it tomorrow, as far as I know :( you won't be able to.

HMV are really going pretty far out on this sale, eh? They have street vendors standing on Henry Street a few feet away from Virgin handing out advertising leaflets... kids carrying around 'HMV BIGGEST EVER SUMMER SALE' balloons... and so on. The store on Grafton Street was bedlam though - never seen such crazy queues in a HMV, not even for the last-minute Christmas Eve 5pm rush.

The Rocky set has been cheap in HMV Limerick for weeks.

Picked up the Amadeus directors cut for €14.99 (nice). Followed it up with Reservoir Dogs and Chasing Amy as well.

Well, in Dublin - some of the boxsets were indeed at normal price the next day.

Picked up a fantastic box set in HMV today. It was a Robert DeNiro boxset, with The Deerhunter, Heat and Goodfellas for €15! Thats just €5 a movie, and they're all great..... good on ya, HMV!

    That's pretty damn good!

You should tell them how good the sale is in here: "http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=102539" - where they're apparently just "clearing the crap that no one wanted." Roiiiight...

On another note, does anyone think DVD's are way too dear? Couldn't help noticing Virgin selling them for 30+ euro each... a bit much, is it not? I would've thought that 20 was a reasonable price, much like an album...
