I'm looking for a console application that will take a set of images and build an AVI from that.

Having trouble finding something like that, does anyone know of one?

There are lots of products out there, try this piece of shareware:

Ok I didn't have my brain turned on when I replied to you last time :o

The gimp has a plugin that let's you open / save as avi

    http://registry.gimp.org/plugin?id=653

I haven't used it before though so I can't vouch for what sort of functionality you get from it.

ImageMagick - never used it to build AVI's but anything else I've used it for it's the Dogs Short and Curlies

Plus AFAIK it's installed as standard in most distro's

    try

    #man convert

for documentation on the command line interface......

    About:
motion uses a video4linux device for detecting movement. It makes snapshots of the movement which can be converted to MPEG movies in realtime (or later for low CPU usage), making it usable as an observation or security system.

Not really what you asked for though hmm?

A program called mgep2encode was part of a demo I had to set up last week, it took a whole bunch of ppm files that had been rendered and turned them into an mpg (surprisingly enough). Never actually got it going as that part of the demo wasn't important, but you might want to look at it.
