Reply from C4/E4 about no BB interactive

Heres an email i sent to C4/E4 about BB interactive not being on the Irish subscribers cards.

To whom it may concern,
i would like to express my annoyance at the fact that
Sky digital subscribers in Ireland can't access the
Big Brother Interactive service.

We had it for series 2, and then when series 3 came
along suddenly there was a problem, the explanation
was that E4 had just switched to Irish based
advertising and that some technical issues hadnt been
worked out yet, a couple of months after BB series 3,
on Backchat, Skys customer opinion programme on CH
998, E4 promised Irish subscribers that the
interactive service would be available to them for BB
series 4.

Two weeks in and there is no sign of it, nor do i
think its coming, you have let down over 200,000 Irish
subscribers because of this, who pay for your E4
service just as much as UK subscribers do.

Do us all a favour and take the trouble to sort out
whatever remaining "issues" you have that dont allow
you to provide us a full service.

And also, for the love of all things good and proper,
get rid of the text messages and Poll boxes on E4.

Now here is the total and utter BS reply i got from them.


E4 Eire broadcasts from a different satellite to E4 UK, unfortunately
we are unable to offer interactive services from this satellite, which
sadly means we cannot broadcast Big Brother Interactive to the Irish
Republic.

You see the way they try to lie just because they think you wont know about the real reason they havent been able to put it on this or last year.

I blame NTL and chorus for adding it to their packages, idiots, whoy dont people just boycott crappy cable systems and just go Sky.

Well, in one way they are correct - E4 UK is on Astra 2A, but E4 Ireland is on Eurobird 1. I guess this could cause a problem for their interactive application.

Still not a good enough excuse for then to not fix the problem though!

Speaking of BB (sorry to hijack) - does anyone know the number to send text messages for BB to? I have the one for voting, 53004, but it will only accept voting - anyone got one that will accept SCREEN keyword?

Could it not be possible to put E4 Eire on same tp as E4 UK and move some other channel to Eurobird, even if just for duration of interactive programming, especially BB?

it would make sense but they would then bring up the whole thing about the ads. if the interactive thing was available here then i am sure they would make money from the voting

Unfortunately, the transponder with Interactive E4 only contains E4 (UK) and all of the Channel4 regions. There are no other channels that could be moved.

It is very annoying that due to E4 making money from Irish advertisers, that the Irish viewers are being deprived of an advertised feature, i.e. the interactive BB (and Bansai - when it is on).
