I'm sure Real had plenty of freekick taking talent before and yet Bob Carlos took (and missed) most of them. Will Beckham be handed the role automatically or will Bob still doing his spectacular balooning?

I can't see Real buying Becks and then letting someone else take the free kicks - its the strongest part of his game. Probably one of the main reasons they bought him

They should let anyone take the freekicks ..... apart from Roberto Carlos. His goals to free kicks taken ratio is awful! Dont get me wrong, hes a great player, but hes no expert free kick taker imo. He just seems to hit the ball as hard as he can in the general direction of the goal. I know he scored that super free kick against France a few years back, but still I dont think hes as good as some people make out.

Spot on, and given the fact that he is that crap at them and still takes them, will Beckham make a difference?

David Beckham is undoubtably the best free taker in the world and Bob Carlos only has a 5% accuracy rate with his frees!! Beckham all the way!!!!!

Who in their right mind would let Roberto Carlos take a free kick.

Even I, a 'Pool fan, can say that Becksy is probly the best free-taker on the planet. Figo's pretty good, Hierro's not bad, Carlos is hit-and-miss-and-miss-and-miss-again. If Becks is on the pitch he should be first up to take'em no matter what team he's playing for. Pure class.

He should take them I suppose, what else was the point in buying him.
Tbh I dont know what the point in buying him was with players like Zidane and Figo who can do the same thing and a whole lot more.

Real didn't spend a small fortune on Beckham so that they'd have somebody to take a free kick once or twice in a game. I think he'll have problem getting a team place for a start. He's got the talent but no dedication as some of his recent Man Utd performances showed.

i know he hasnt been good lately, but have you ever seen so many grown men brickin it in a wall when bob steps up to take a free?

the wall chickens out and breaks up most times, thats how he scores his goals!!

Yer right there Vinny. It's exactly what happened in Real's game tonite. Free-kick 20 yards out, wall disintegrates, Bob Carlos lashes into the bottom corner. Real won 3-1 to take the championship.

bob hasnt a hope of taking the frees at real once becks arrives, only because thats the only chance becks will have to shine. wait till the real faithful get on becks back.....

all part of fergies master plan... mu ha ha ha ;)

Eh didn't they buy him coz he'll make them rich(er) in shirt sales. I mean they have Figo, why would they need Beckham other than as a commercial investment. The new president of Real even said himself that Beckham's value is greater off the pitch thanit is on it.

Oh and Beckham will take the free-kicks, when he's on the pitch that is. He'll spend most his time on the bench behind Figo.

Real are far more likely to pay him instead of Claude Makelele or Flavio Conceiçao in the middle.

Beckham would be most effective in that posistion in Spain as he wouldhave more room on the ball to pick put the more attacking players Like Raul/Figo/Zidane/Ronaldo.

They may even play him in the Role Milan played Pirlo this year, sitting back and spoon feeding Zidane.

I agree with that last point. Becks in good when all he has to do is use his right leg. Just plonk him in the middle and and use his pin point passes to pick out runners. The only benefit to him on the wing was his crosses. More effective in the middle IMO.
